+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted December 11, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted December 11, 2013 So I have two 8.1 systems, and one Windows 7 system. I have plugged in two differnet phones, and now my video camera, and both Windows 8.1 systems, make the sound of a USB connection, but nothing is shown, no messages, nothing in device manager. I go plug them into the Windows 7 system, it works as it should. Any ideas?
Gotenks98
Do you have proper drivers installed for the devices and the motherboard on the WIndows 8.1 system
+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted December 11, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 11, 2013 All drivers are installed, everything works. Device manager shows no missing drivers. As I said, I plug it in, get no noficiations, no anything. No drivers are needed to plug in a storage device (which is what a camera, and phone is). I never installed drivers for it on the WIndows 7 system.
snaphat (Myles Landwehr) Member Posted December 11, 2013 Member Share Posted December 11, 2013 I'm curious, did you have a virtualized OS installed at any point or a virtual USB drive from some piece of software? I was going to make a joke about the former, but I found a link somewhere that suggested Virtual Box could be screwing with it and causing it to be treated as a virtual USB. +longgonebn Subscriber² Posted December 11, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 11, 2013 Nope, no VM software installed ever. I have even tried differnet USB ports, USB3 and 2, no luck. I do know its the type of device though, a USB thumb stick seems to work fine. snaphat (Myles Landwehr) 1 Share
farmeunit
Probably not your issue, but we're seeing this a lot of my work with Windows 8 and our AV. Mainly with external drives. You can hear them being picked up, but there is an error in Device Manager. The drivers are fine, they just won't load properly with a Code 38. We can uninstall AV, then drives are fine. We can re-install AV, still fine. We're having other odd USB issues, but I haven't had time to test. We didn't have these issues with Windows 7. francescob
Just open disk management (from the WinKey+X menu) and assign the drive letters by hand?
