Xbox One fastest selling console in U.S in November

Recommended Posts

Xbox has seen record-breaking sales with the recent announcement of Xbox One selling more than 2 million units through to consumers worldwide since its launch. November NPD Group figures released today revealed 909,132 Xbox One units were sold in the U.S. in the console?s first nine days, making it the fastest selling console on the market in the U.S. Xbox One sales averaged a volume of more than 101,000 consoles per day, significantly outpacing the nearest competitor.

November 2013 NPD highlights include:

?Total retail spend on the Xbox platform (Xbox One and Xbox 360) in November (hardware, software and accessories) reached $1.21 billion, the most for any console in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group).

?During the month of November, Xbox (Xbox One and Xbox 360) held five of the top 10 spots on the console game title list (Source: NPD Group).

?During the month of November, Xbox One sold nearly three times as many units compared to Xbox 360 in the U.S. during its November 2005 launch (Source: NPD Group).

We are seeing strong consumer excitement for next gen Xbox One games, with U.S. consumers purchasing an average of 2.1 games* per console.

November NPD Group data reports on sales data for November, which included only the first nine days of Xbox One?s availability.

I'm actually a bit shocked by this. It actually makes me scratch my head. Now I'm very interested in seeing those NPD figures to see where the rest fell behind the X1.

I would have put money on the ps4 outselling everything in November in the US considering their 24hr numbers.

Well either way, good for MS, those are great numbers regardless of what position it puts you in. I think its clear that there is some seriously pent up demand for next generation consoles.

A 2.1 attach rate is also a pretty good start software wise for the console.

This afternoon we learned from market research firm NPD Group that PS4 was the top-selling console for November and PlayStation was #1 in sales overall for home consoles.

But guys seriously, the PS4 sold 1 million in it's first 24 hours in America, that is more than 900k - http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/11/17/playstation-4-sales-pass-1-million-in-north-america

How can 900k in 9 days = faster than 1 million in 24 hours? Honest question.

North America isn't just the U.S. The PS Blog makes no mention of U.S,just a very vague comment about "top in sales in November"

Does NPD report on preorder sales?  I thought they got all their data from retailer point of sale, which would exclude a lot of sales on both sides (basically anyone who had their console shipped to them), and would explain exactly what we've been hearing, that you can pick up Xbox Ones at a store much more easily than you can PS4s.

No, just sold through.

tretton being very vague, implying the NPD figures "confirm ps4 is the top selling in November: but I don't see him "confirming top selling in the U.S" once. In fact,he does mention north America in the beginning. Even the PS Blog is just as vague. The xbox post was direct.

"In North America alone, more than one million PS4 units were sold in only 24 hours and we're pleased NPD has reported that PS4 was the top selling next-gen platform for both hardware and software in November," he added.

Lol and the original post from the Xbox team is different how? Get a grip.

If MS had sold the most they'd of said best selling console, not fastest. It's PR spin.

How can the X1 be the fastest selling console in November the US and then the ps4 be the top selling console in November?

Someone is lying or I can't grasp the math involved

That link above would seem to say that the ps4 outsold the X1 for November, which clearly would mean its also the fastest selling console as well.

Because the PS4 was out for two weeks and the Xbox One was out for one week.  That's how it can sell faster but not more which again pretty much corroborates everything we've been hearing.

Apparently if you do some "complicated" maths due to the Xbox One only being out for 9 days, it can be fastest, but still have sold less. It goes by day by day average. Obviously the further you go time wise the more you come up against stock issues/shortages, so the less you sell on average. You can't be selling 800k consoles every 24 hours.

I think I get it.

So this is how MS can say that and be true:

The X1 sold 900k+ consoles in 9 days while the ps4 sold say 1.1million in 15 days.

So in that case, the ps4 sold the most in November, but the X1 sold at a faster rate than the ps4 in November.

That makes more sense.

It's been said, nothing complicated here, the PS4 was on the market longer so it sold more but the Xbox One sold faster for the fewer days it was on the market in November.  Who's to say what the numbers would be if the Xbox One was out for as long?  Either way what MS posted isn't wrong or a lie, just calm down and read it carefully.

look at the context of the sentence

fastest isn't in relation to the daily figures, but the total figures.

Yeah, its not big deal. I'm just eager to see the numbers break down for November, especially to see how the WiiU and previous gen consoles did.

The X1 and ps4 seem to be neck and neck, actually closer than I thought it would be simply due to Sony being on the market longer. December will be a very interesting spread. I would say its likely to stay close.

That just means the X1 hit 900K faster than the ps4 did, again, a faster pace.

Still, the ps4 had more units sold for November.

I think this whole next generation will stay close yet again unless MS either drops the ball with exclusive games in which case the ps4 pulls ahead or they cut deals with cable providers and the xb1 is sold as a second set top box option subsidized for less, in which case it'll storm ahead. Only time will tell really.
