Not interested in using device

Recommended Posts

I just bought my mother a Nexus 7, I was pretty excited about playing with it and setting it up for her. But, as I was setting it up and playing with it for about 30 minutes I just seemed bored with it. Usually I'm on my iOS device all day, using it here and there.

What am I doing wrong? Reason I'm asking is because I'm interested in the Nexus 5 and trying Android out, but if I'm going to be bored with it then it'll be a waste of money. I think using an Android phone would make me more social face to face with people when out and about, I'm usually texting or browsing on my phone all the time.

I have questions such as rooting it and getting "free" apps, I know that kind of topic isn't allowed so if you can PM me and give me some knowledge I'd be happy to read.

As vanilla android just does what it's told it is very functional, the variant versions with touchwiz interfaces are just gimmicks, they are very capable and great devices as bookreaders and so on, some are advanced enough to compete against the giants, but in the end it is just an android tablet. But then the same could be said about it's competitors too, after all their functionality, they also are just tablets, suited for their os, and intended purposes.

True, it could be because I don't have the same apps on it as I do on my iPad Mini.

I'm really looking to try Android out and enjoy it. Another issue would be having it sync with my iPad Mini and not having iMessage anymore will suck.

the chat apps leave a lot to be desired, but they're trying hangouts isn't bad, (and that's my best review) imessage is better imo, but then my texts seem to be more fluid than my wife's iphone (although that could mostly be carrier related, and not device related)

it is what it is, and if cost was a consideration, it's decently priced for what it does :)

Nothing. You simply prefer iOS. Different strokes for different folks.

But, I'm also getting bored with iOS / screen size. If the iPhone had a wider screen like the Nexus 5, then I'd stay. But going to a 5S from a 4S, sure the speed and camera will be nice but a bigger screen would be nice as well. Every time I see or think about the Nexus 5, all I say is I want it.

I have both my personal Android devices rooted (Phone and Tablet).  There are plenty of legit reasons to want to root. I use xposed Mods on my phone at least, to show a battery bar, tweak some settings with the NFC and some minor things.

When you have the need to backup your data, Titanium Backup requires root if you choose to use that program which is very good at backing up your files.  Then, there is a garden variety of system cleaners which help clean up your system by taking advantage of super user permissions (Root) to clear out files which can't normally be removed.  Or debloating your phone with some apps that "Freeze" your preinstalled apps that you never use.

My wife got the Nexus 7 and we haven't done any rooting on it, but from what I have seen of this compared to my HP Slate 7, the Nexus is simply awesome in screen clarity/quality among other things. :)

Well, the only suitable replacement for iMessage i found was whatsapp and even that seems a lot more integrated in iOS than android. Hangouts is cumbersome at  its best.

Oddly enough I feel the same way.

I have a

Acer w500 windows 8 tablet

iPad 2

Nexus 7 2012

If I am going to take a tablet with me i'm always taking my iPad. Just like you said after i got my Nexus 7 I just got bored with it quickly. Now it's running Kitkat. Haven't even use that much.

That being said I have a Galaxy S3 which was running 4.2 and just upgraded it to kitkat saturday, I love that little guy!.

I have an iPad as well, and I love it but I don't understand this "it's boring" sentiment.  What did you expect it to do that would have made it less boring?  All I ever do with my iPad is read stuff and to me thats all any tablet is good for.

Any operating system more-or-less is rather boring in-and-of-itself.  Get some apps to amuse yourself with.

Couldn't have said it better...

Strange to expect the device to amuse you with nothing on it compared to a device you've loaded with apps that fill your particular tastes...

It was my mom's tablet, I wasn't going to download a bunch of apps on it. Now that I left the iPhone for the Nexus 5, I'm in love with it. I still have my iPad Mini.
