Best over all Gaming Console?

Recommended Posts

hi, i am looking for honest opinions. i have used both Sony and Microsoft consoles for years. i have been using the Xbox 360 since launch, i had a PS3 for a few months then got rid of cause i didn't play it much not cause it was a bad system. i am looking at purchasing one of the 2 new consoles Xbox One or PS4. i would like honest opinions or thoughts on both please to which is the better "Gaming" machine. i don't care about Kinetic or any of that extra bells and whistles, just the better Gaming machine. how are PS4 online servers vs Xbox One?  thanks

I think you have your answer. Xbox 1.

You've used the 360 so your current account will work fine and if it is gold, will work fine too.

Both consoles are so close. Which ever one you decide you'll be happy with.

In an ideal world you'll want both because of the exclusive titles but i say XB1 because you already own a 360.

There isn't an "overall" console that is the best. Both consoles will offer a great gaming experience.

I don't see this being a particularly productive thread.  Kinect (or Kinetic as you call it) may be "bells and whistles" to you - to others it may be an integral part of the gaming experience, and obviously the converse could be met against online servers.

Game wise.. PS4 currently has the edge, and I do see that continuing.  I am with you on the Kinect.. I don't buy a console for the fancy inputs.. I buy it for the raw power.  I went with the PS4.. and I think it will do all you could need from a Game Console.   However, as mentioned above.. both consoles are a step up from the last gen.. and there is no wrong choice.. unless you go for the wii u.

i buy one game every year which is madden. i do have 2 xbox live accounts but don't care if i move on to the PS4 world. i just want the better gaming machine, i do get other games but the i buy every year is madden. so either is good, neither is the better. that's a safe answer i don't want fan boy answer on the thread just looking for fair thoughts on it... not sure how you can say not a productive thread... looking for fair answers

Thanks

For games and online service, Xbox One.  As they were with the 360, Microsoft has a much better online gaming service and games.  Plus you already have your gamer account setup.

Not really a tough decision imo but enjoy whichever console you choose.   :)

Honestly - if you can afford it get both. Each console has some really good exclusives coming  out for them in the next ~6 months.

At the moment I'd say XB1 has better games but that's only because I like Forza!

PS4 is pure gaming machine

XBox One is a home entertainment hub.

PS4 has faster graphics and system RAM

XBox has faster CPU and a ES cache RAM

PS4 is 100$ cheaper than XBox One

XBox has better motion sensor which compensates the cost

PS4 exclusives: Killzone, GT5, Drive Club

XBox exclusives: Ryse, Forza 5, Halo 5

So it's a close call. But PS4 wins by wafer thin margin just because of it's price.

PS4 Exclusives are currenty: Killzone, Knack - however there are some really good F2P stuff aswell.

XB1 Currently : Forza 5, Dead Rising 3 and Ryse.

If you prefer the 360, then the New Xbox is the one for you, the ps4 hasn't got much in the way of games (that I like) yet
(I bought the 4 because It was the one I wanted, )

XBox has faster CPU

It does? I actually didn't know that.

Which console has the exclusive games you wish to play? from your initial question that's the only thing that really matters.

Decide that and then purchase the console with the exclusives.

I would say go with the one most of your friends are getting or exclusives that you like most. If those aren't a factor, then pick one based on your TV. If your TV is 42" or less or it's sub HD TV (1080i, 720p, or standard) then get an Xbox One. Otherwise get a PS4.

Both systems offer motion control, voice commands, and comparable online infrastructures now. So there isn't much to separate them other than what I mentioned above. I think the PS4 is better based on performance, price, and PS+. But that's just my opinion.

What does the television size or being a sub HD TV have to do with the choice being an Xbox One?  The Xbox One supports 1080p and large televisions just fine.

I own an Xbox One, so consider me slightly biased...

If you're buying an Xbox One or PS4 within the next few months, you're an early adopter. If you really must have the 'best overall' console, you probably shouldn't be an early adopter - it's too early to declare either one as being better. The simple statement is they appear to be evenly matched - go with whichever platform has your preferred controller, that your friends are using, that your wallet can afford and which has the exclusives that you prefer.

For pure gaming, the PS4 may be superior. Early graphical comparisons show the PS4 having a slight lead; it does have more raw graphics power, but it's not clear whether the slight PS4 graphic improvements are due to that additional power or because developers have had less time to optimise the Xbox code. Some people will state that the Xbox can't do 1080P; that's not true - we only know that several of the launch titles aren't 1080P.

For multiplayer / online services, history would give the Xbox One a massive lead over the PS4. The only real indication of current capability is that the PS4 online services couldn't cope when it launched into the US and Europe, whereas the Xbox Live platform remained online - but launch activity is not a good indication for the long term.

The differentiators are more against non-gaming activities; Kinect and the HDMI-In provide the Xbox with an advantage, but do those matter for you? It's cool to say 'Xbox On' and have it turn on my TV and AV receiver, but that's fluff. On the software side, the PS4 has stronger relationships with Indy developers right now, but Microsoft are foremost a software company - with ID@Xbox and the potential unification of the Windows / Windows Phone / Xbox stores, the Xbox should have longer term potential.

If you can, buy both. Otherwise pick whichever you prefer - there's really not a wrong choice.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System offers the best selection of games of any console.

Nah, it has to be Sega Mega Drive with it's superior High Definition Graphics and Sound. Blows region locked Nintendont out of the water.

I'd say get some hands-on-time with both, try out the controllers see which one works better for you.

Graphics edge would go to the PS4, early comparisons already show this in the initial launch titles and the longer a system has been out the more developers are able to utilize its raw graphics processing power and the graphics gap widens.

(But I wouldn't expect Madden to look much different between the two consoles as its not really a game they'd be too interested in optimizing for one console)

Online services would go to Xbox One, Xbox Servers seem more stable but the PS4 now is a subscription service to play online so I expect their online services to match that of the Xbox Ones in time.

Just go to a retailer and try them both out, I did and decided to go for the PS4. (Unfortunately I have to wait till March for stock in Australia)

So PS4 is a bit harder to get and therefore you might want to settle for a Xbox One.

Also NeoWin  (Windows-Microsoft) probably not the best place to ask for an unbiased response.

If Madden is your biggest concern for gaming I'd say stick with Xbox, I'm sure you play online and you already know how good the online services are.  There isnt going to be a correct answer here, the biggest reason people buy x console over another at the moment is the games (exclusives) and since Madden is not an exclusive its tough to say whats the right purchase for you.  If you play madden.. maybe you would like the NFL app on the xbox..  as mentioned your best bet is to actually play on both before making the call.

If your main game is Madden and you truly have little interest in any other game, then I would suggest not buying either right now.

If you look through the games out now for both and learn about the game we know about coming in the future and find more games you want to play, then choose that console.

If your looking for the cheapest console to play Madden on now, then that's the ps4. If you have friends that you like to play with, then go with the one that most of them want to get. If you have a controller preference, then that might sway you. Maybe go to a store and get your hands on an X1 or PS4 controller.

For the pure gaming experience, both consoles can offer you a great one for Madden so if you end up with either, you will be happy.

Most games will be multiplatform, so you need to look at the games that will be exclusive to the coming platforms and decide based on that. Or if you have lots of friends with next-gen consoles, or you know what your friends are buying, you might want to buy whatever they buy so you can play with them.
