Minecraft is coming to PS3 this week

Have to admit I haven't played Minecraft... not even seen a video of it so seriously have no clue what it is about. Will probably pick it up for the PS4 when it arrives on that.

What?! I have no idea how you managed that considering the hype train the game has had in previous years.

You have a lot to learn when you pick it up :P

So now I have a similar question to one I raised the other day on the official thread: How compatible will this version be with the PC or the pocket versions? Or are each of these versions completely separate?

If I can get this and play on the Neowin server then I will certainly consider it, otherwise I'll continue to ignore it.

Console versions and PC versions are completely different, PC version is Java, consoles is something else, I can't remember what.

Unfortunately they are separate.

Each of the different versions are in different stages of developement and languages.

Yeah that was one of the things that made me sad when they first released the Pocket Edition was that you cannot play on the same game as a PC Player. There are ways around this such as running an emulated server on a PC and then joining it with both the PC client and the Pocket client but it is not a very smooth process. However, being that the PS3/PS4 and the Xbox360/XBone versions of the game are ports of each other. I was hoping that they would be cross platform however, it turned out that they couldn't do that either which was sad.

Thankfully from what I understand the Vita and PS3 versions are going to be compatible with one another thought ( as they are essentially the same version) I hope they manage somehow to make it a cross buy rather than buying it twice. As i have already bought this game several times lol.

though i would be nice, no other game has been able to do multiplayer cross-platform either so i didn't really expect minecraft to be able to

I just want to play this with my GF co-op on the couch, reason I will be buying. As for cross-buy questions, lol, it's minecraft, it's a cashcow. They'll be betting on people buying twice+.

There are a few cross-platform games; e.g War Thunder - PC / PS4, lots of social games do it also and I think UT was mentioned about it too.

I think Minecraft would be a good IP to do it on as no controller combo would give someone an advantage and it would just be controller preference.

Hype tends to have the opposite effect with me for a while. :p I keep telling myself I should watch some "let's plays" (and have some on my watch list) but I just never get round to it.
