According to Variety, Evangeline Lilly has just entered early negotiations with Marvel Studios to nab the lead female role in the forthcoming Ant-Man. Although Janet Van Dyne, aka The Wasp, would be the first character to come to mind, who the Canadian actress is actually playing is unknown. However, insiders claim "she would play Hank Pym?s daughter and Scott Lang?s love interest."

Avatar's Matt Gerald, the latest actor to join Marvel's Ant-Man, could be playing a villainous character he already established in the Iron Man 3 follow-up short All Hail the King.

Breaking: Edgar Wright Departs Marvel Studios? Ant-Man

Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.

Written by Wright and Joe Cornish, Ant-Man is set to star Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Patrick Wilson and Corey Stoll. The film follows a biochemist Dr. Hank Pym using his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects. Paul Rudd will play Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Michael Douglas stars as Hank Pym.

Yeah, haha. That would've been lame on both parts. What's odd though is that the cinematographer talked about using film instead of digital cameras a week ago, as if Wright was still on board. So it seems like it was done on short notice :/

Wow! :|

Yeah, quite the bummer! :/

6 weeks ago Marvel took the script off [Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish] and gave the writing assignment to two very low credit writers. One of the writers were from Marvel?s in house writing team. Edgar stayed cool, agreed to stay on the project, and read the draft.

The script came in this week and was completely undone. Poorer, homogenized, and not Edgar?s vision. Edgar met with Marvel on Friday to formally exit and the announcement went out directly after.

Gunn (Director of Guardians) has released a statement:

Sometimes you have friends in a relationship. You love each of them dearly as individuals and think they?re amazing people. When they talk to you about their troubles, you do everything you can to support them, to keep them together, because if you love them both so much doesn?t it make sense they should love each other? But little by little you realize, at heart, they aren?t meant to be together ? not because there?s anything wrong with either of them, but they just don?t have personalities that mesh in a comfortable way. They don?t make each other happy. Although it?s sad to see them split, when they do, you?re surprisingly relieved, and excited to see where their lives take them next.

It?s easy to try to make one party ?right? and another party ?wrong? when a breakup happens, but it often isn?t that simple. Or perhaps it?s even more simple than that ? not everyone belongs in a relationship together. It doesn?t mean they?re not wonderful people.

And that?s true of both Edgar Wright and Marvel. One of them isn?t a person, but I think you get what I mean.

?Anchorman? director Adam McKay is in advanced talks to replace Edgar Wright as helmer of Marvel?s ?Ant-Man,? sources confirm to Variety. Wright had been attached to the superhero project since 2006 before resigning last week over creative differences.

UPDATE: Well, this isn't good. Adam McKay was said to be in advanced talks last night, but now The Hollywood Reporter says he has pulled out of the negotiations. The decision is said to be his alone. Will Marvel now go with either Rawson Marshall Thurber or Ruben Fleischer?

Director Rawson Marshall Thurber Passes On Marvel's ANT-MAN

Earlier today, we scooped that Rawson Thurber had been offered the job in the hopes of settling down the movie?s rocky road to production and getting things back on pace to hit that July 2015 release date Marvel is still dead set on. Unfortunately, the ANT-MAN nightmare for Marvel continues, as sources tell us Thurber has indeed passed on the film, sending the studio right back to the drawing board to find someone actually willing to touch this movie with a 10-foot pole.
