Apart from the PS3 which broke the norm in regards to original console price in relation to consoles sold, price has been a very big factor in which console succeeds sales wise.

Corellation =/= Causation.

It's not price.  The top six consoles there are all consoles put out by the big 3, the ones that games are made for and apart from the NES, they're all from much more recent times, when gaming has exploded.  There are a great deal of reasons as to why those six are at the top and price isn't one of them, at least not in a big way as you would have people think.

Interesting pic though.

PS3 launch price was a joke. I bought my first unit second hand for ?330. Over ?400 for a console on its own? :/

I bought my PS4 for ?429, but that was with two controllers, Killzone and the camera. Care not for the camera but it was the only bundle with two controllers. Prices for controllers have always been a joke also, ?40-50 for one!

Great picture! It brought back a lot of great memories. I wish I still had some of my older systems. I'd love to get that feeling back. Gaming was so much purer and more fun back then.

Was gonna say the exact same thing. If you're gonna adjust prices for inflation you should also adjust the number of gamers by such :D I think the NES (and the Game Boy which isn't here) have incredible sales numbers for their time.

The gaming graphics of the 3do were ahead of its  time and were comparable to ps1 games

Wait, wheres the Phantom console prices ??? oh wait... :laugh:

Good memories: i had first a Sega Game Gear, a Sega MegaDrive (Genesis for you Americans), a Japanese, hard modded Sega Saturn, a Playstation, a Nintendo 64...

Then i had friends who had GameBoy, NES and SNES, Sega 32x, Sega MegaCD, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox and so on. It was fun times!

Oh and that NFS: i've played the Saturn edition and trust me, although the graphics weren't as good as the 3DO version, the sound chip was better. That game had a really good soundtrack and graphics and to consider that people jumped from Sonic graphics to that in a couple of years, it was huge.

Also important to say is that most of the people of my age grown up playing games from the very roots of it (i played Pacman in a Arcade guys!), so i tend to value games as they are a very important part of my childhood/teenage years; unlike kids this days that play COD and such and are used to those shiny graphics and lack patience, i grow up with an Timex/ZX Spectrum that had those amazing loading times: 10 minutes or more for loading a single game and it was very often that the k7 would jam and i had to start the loading process all over again... :laugh:  The good part was that it was very easy to copy the game for a friend to play. :rofl:
