Really? I'm sure you'll be shocked to find that I didn't graduate college, meaning my GPA is non-existent, yet I seem to be doing just fine for myself.
Ask Bill Gates, he never graduated and he is a billionaire.
College is just a way to help you get your foot in the door because a lot of entry level jobs require college education. As you gain experience, your college education and grades will matter less to employers and they will focus more on how much experience you have. The best ways to increase your chances of gaining experience is to get a college degree to give you some kind of marketability when applying for jobs during your infancy stage in the real world. If you don't, then you better have good connections out there because the economy is bad and employers will not just hire anyone from the street.
Of course, there are some fields where you MUST get a college degree, such as Accounting and Law. You won't be eligible to take the CPA or Bar exam without fulfilling the proper education requirements. So, you can't be a successful CPA or Lawyer without going to college.
So, it really all depends on what field you're in and what kind of connections you have. If you're a good friend of Bill Gates, then no question about it, you can get a great job without going to college.
