ultimate99
I've got 2 1TB WD Red drives for my server. What would be the best way to test those drives? I'm running Windows Server 2012.
+Mirumir Subscriber¹ Posted December 25, 2013 Subscriber¹ Share Posted December 25, 2013 Hello! What exactly are you testing for: speed or reliability? For reliability, any utility that supports the SMART interface will do. I prefer SpeedFan and diagnostic tools supplied by manufacturers (WD Lifeguard). For speed tests, I use Atto Disk Benchmark. Cheers!

T3X4S
the disk manufacturer's utility. Or, HD Tune. I dont know if they still work, but a while back - if you had a Seagate, you ran SeaTools for DOS, if you have a WD drive, you ran their utility, etc..But HD Tune is nice, it will show bad sectors, and the Pro version will even show sectors that are starting to go bad.Anyone use SpinRite 6.0 anymore ? snaphat (Myles Landwehr) Member Posted December 26, 2013 Member Share Posted December 26, 2013 Make sure to be careful about obscure smart entry fields. Though, I kind of doubt WD is going to have any. I know that early SSDs did though based on some questions I saw on this forum last month. Manufacturer specific fields where they never bothered to ever tell anyone in the world what the values actually meant
