best way to test hard drives?

the disk manufacturer's utility.  Or, HD Tune.  

I dont know if they still work, but a while back - if you had a Seagate, you ran SeaTools for DOS, if you have a WD drive, you ran their utility, etc..

But HD Tune is nice, it will show bad sectors, and the Pro version will even show sectors that are starting to go bad.


Anyone use SpinRite 6.0 anymore ?

Make sure to be careful about obscure smart entry fields. Though, I kind of doubt WD is going to have any. I know that early SSDs did though based on some questions I saw on this forum last month. Manufacturer specific fields where they never bothered to ever tell anyone in the world what the values actually meant :laugh:
