2014 ? A New Neowin

Hello everyone, I hope everyone had a great holiday and hope you have a great New Year.  I wanted to take the time for Neowin Members to take a pledge for 2014. Neowin forums have rocked back and fourth pretty bad in the past two years..

Here are some things I would like for Neowin Members to focus on for the new year..

1. Posting negative comments for no good reason

-An example of this would be, when a brand is being discussed and someone replies with unexplained negativity. If someone post about Android or Linux doing well, there isn?t a need for smartass empty comments.

2. Start Menu Debate

            - After all the threads and post, we know what other members want and don?t want. There is no sense rehashing this debate over and over.  Example. If a start menu thread comes about in the next windows and someone post, ?we don?t need a start menu?, just let it go. If someone doesn?t want or does want the start menu, just let them be, no sense insulting them or trying to change someone?s mind..

3. Fanboy Hate

-If someone is team PS4 or Team Xbox, and can?t post a thought out post and it just empty trolling, report it to a mod.. It isn?t just these two brands, but hopefully you get the idea.. People are so emotional about their gaming console..

4. Apple\Hate

-Ok, more than likely you posted 100 times that you don?t like Apple, good for you.  When a story comes about Apple, there isn?t a need to start a flame war or posting ?GOOD? when something bad happens to them.

5. Healthy Debating

-Yes, this a tech forum and we are going to like different products.. If you are going to defend your product or trash another, back it up with facts, don?t just post hate with empty thoughts..

I?m all for healthy trolling, taking stabs, having fun.. But, some people take things to serious and things spin out of control. They get so passionate about their company they support and it just seems ridiculous.  I challenge us to all post more thought out and educated post.  If there is something else you think Neowin Members should focus on in the new year, lets hear it..

I agree with the principal and the concept, but alas, too many babies have to pipe up in those threads just to make themselves feel better.

Half of the time the 'facts' some post, are just factual in their heads...

I have had similar feelings on things but I think the trolling and fanboyism is so ingrained by some members on here, it's incredibly hard to police :(

I agree with what you said (Y) but it's ain't gonna happen. Unless you strip people of their right to free speech and free will, people will always say things not everyone likes. To be honest, the only way to deal with it is to harden up and just don't let people get to you. I'm sure what I said will rub a few people the wrong way, but is the only way I see things improving even slightly here. All and all, I still feel this is a great community and still proud to be part of it

I wish that 2014 for Neowin would bring some freshness. I don't know why I stick with it. I guess I feel nostalgia as it was my first tech site to follow tech-news back in 2002 or earlier. Neowin hasn't changed but the industry has, Microsoft news are usually not that exciting as it was in 2003 (LongHorn, Vista leaks). I hope that new CEO for Microsoft next year will ignite some fire, and it will help this Site. Keep-up don't give up!

What about a redesign website with a flat design to look modern?

That's what I thought this thread was about when I read the title. And yeah, I second this. :)

Sorry but the website is outdate, Takes me back to the late 2000s. Compare to Engadget and the Verge, you can tell why those site people go to them first.

I go there for news.. I come here for the forums.. it has NOTHING to do with design.

I take it you don't like Microsoft's modern vision then? :o

Nope. The analogies of kindergarten designs has been thrown around enough. It's a personal preference, that's all.
