compl3x
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) ? A New York man is the newly crowned world record holder for having the largest collection of video games. Michael Thomasson of suburban Buffalo says he began collecting soon after receiving his first game, Cosmic Avenger, as a Christmas present from his grandparents when he was 12. Thomasson had to wait until the next Christmas to play it, though, until his parents could get their hands on the hot-selling Colecovision system to play it on. Now, 31 years and roughly 11,000 games later, Thomasson is featured in the just-released "Guinness World Records 2014 Gamer's Edition." The official number of 10,607 games bests the previous record holder, Richard Lecce (LESS'-eeh) of Florida, who had 8,616 games in 2010. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/gaming/2013/12/24/video-game-record/4186969/

riahc3
Hello, Well, the record is for owning them, not actually playing them.Records, IMO, have gotten to a point that they are stupid. I think there is even a record for fail attempts to break a (or multiple) world record.... If he had at least unboxed and played some (at least for a minute) this would be more meaning full. If you think about it, and had money to spare, this record is easyly broken: Just go to your dollar shop, they have these 31 in 1 games, buy a few (to my estimate a bit over 350 of those) and you have beaten this guy's record :) Im not hating, Im just stating flaws in this... I think you'd find it pretty hard to collect 10000 games quite honestly. A great deal of them are probably hard, if not impossible, to find on the market anymore. It's a pretty impressive feat to me regardless of whether or not he played them.

I posted a easy method on how to break the record (money aside): If you think about it, and had money to spare, this record is easily broken: Just go to your dollar shop, they have these 31 in 1 games, buy a few (to my estimate a bit over 350 of those) and you have beaten this guy's record :) On top of that, I did a little search. The record there officially states that he has a world record for "the largest collection of video games" (I ment to put as little detail as possible, just using text to get my point across. If this image breaks Neowin's rules, please PM me and I will remove it at once) With that I would have a "collection of video games" of 10964, breaking his record.... snaphat (Myles Landwehr) Member Posted December 28, 2013 Member Share Posted December 28, 2013 His record is for physical copies though most likely. I have a feeling that multiple games per cart/disc don't count either.

I'm guessing the record is for legal, distinct, physical copies of games, which puts a wrench in both your methods.

+Xinok Subscriber² Posted December 28, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted December 28, 2013 This is the original story: http://bigstory.ap.org/article/ny-mans-10607-video-games-secure-guinness-title It doesn't clarify whether there are multiple copies of the same game or not, but I find it unlikely that there are many, if any.
