Nokia 1520 distorted photo

Recommended Posts

I have the Nokia 1520 and when I point the camera at a person with them lined up in the middle of the screen they look fine but if I line their head up to the top of the screen their head (upper body) is distorted. It is like a fish bowl effect or something. It is like that for everything and does not have to be a person but a person is an easy test. The picture is distorted at the bottom of the picture too but not as bad. Flip the camera to the side and the picture is distorted at the sides. Take the picture and it is saved distorted. I can't upload pictures to show you right now.

Can someone with a Nokia 1520 test their camera and let me know if you have the same problem.

I am using the stock app. I tested Nokia's app and it does the same and no I am not using a lens. So you have a 1520 and do not have that issue? Sucks. I am not up to exchanging/returning the phone but it seems like I need to. I did not buy the phone for the camera but that is one of the things Nokia phones, specially this one, is known for. I bought it from Microsoft's website.

Sorry, I don't have a 1520 but I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem.  If it was widespread I expect it would have been reported by now.  Someone with a 1520 might be able to help you but otherwise you could try WPCentral's 1520 forum:

I've always found Nokia's support to be great so I would suggest getting in touch with them.  Alternatively you could get in touch with Microsoft - I don't know what their online store support is like. It sounds to me like you might have just got a dud.  Even the best products will suffer from a small percentage of QA failings.

Good luck.

Yes, I think I do have a dud. Another problem I am having  is with cellular data. When I try to surf the internet it is really slow and most times the page does not open up at all. I got my phone last Friday and only used WiFi but this week I am at work and have this problem. I thought maybe I am getting throttled by straight talk. I only stream music and have never had a problem before. I do not have anyone around with a mini sim card to test. The beginning of the month is coming up so I can see if straight talk is throttling me or if I truly have issues with the wireless with this phone. I have not mentioned this problem in case it was only a throttle issue but maybe the phone has both problems. I will check out WPCentral's forums and contact Microsoft or Nokia for a replacement. Damn, this sucks.

I got a replacement phone and the image is distorted too. Maybe it is the lens and the setup of the camera. I will never know without other feedback. I am not going to keep exchanging a phone to learn if it is the way it is. lol

There is an article about the Nokia 1520 I was reading and this is what they were saying about the lens. Maybe you photo guys know if this setup can distort on the edge or not.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a brand new version of Nokia's PureView camera line. It uses a 1/2.5" sensor with 20MP resolution. To put that in context, the sensor has 15% smaller surface area than the 20MP 1/2.3" sensor in the Xperia Z1.

It is certainly smaller than the Lumia 1020 sensor too and the ZEISS lens has a narrower f/2.4 aperture (compared to f/2.2 on the 1020). There's no xenon flash either, all of which should affect the low-light performance.

Can you post a photo that you've taken from it?

Also, silly question.  But have you taken the little plastic protective sticker off the lens?
