Is the Left 4 Dead 2 single player campaign story good?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

First off, I enjoyed very much the Half-Life 2 and Portal 1 and 2 stories :) I liked those.

That being said, I tried the first Left 4 Dead 2 chapter and it seemed really....dull. I just felt I was (hiding behind my teammates :P ) shooting at pointless zombies. Is there a point to this besides getting "rescued"?

Online (for now) is more interesting but not by much...

I never played Left 4 Dead 1 but 2 seems really boring and a aimless shoot shoot. Even getting the coca-cola wasnt semiintresting....

There isn't really all that much of a story you just move from location to location to survive and be rescued.

There isn't really a storyline, Left 4 Dead is more about the journey from points A to B, not the end result. Playing it online is great, you almost never get a similar experience.

I've played over 700 hours in L4D2 (single player, I don't bother with multiplayer and the elitist community).

I cant imagine that those bots are really bad especially on expert

Did you find the story intresting?

BTW, how many of you have played Half-Life 2 and Portal 1/2? I ask because I want to know if you found L4D2 boring but those games I just mentioned intresting :)

You shouldn't be playing Left 4 Dead if what you want is story.

They're gameplay-first games, not story-driven like Portal or Half-Life.

I've played maybe 100 hours of each, however I always seem to go back to L4D2. I still have fun playing campaigns while purposely killing the bots and reviving them (it *does* involve cheats, however since it's single player and I already have nearly all the achievements, I only do this for fun). Here, try putting this into the developer console if you want a challenge...

This starts the second campaign Dark Carnival and it enables the mutation Special Delivery. ;)

Playing Left 4 Dead 2 for its story is like expecting a story from the Unreal Tournament series. The campaigns are made to deliberately resemble an interactive action flick, but it's really meant to be played with other people.

It's meant to be played on multi or coop. Single player is not all that bad but it gets boring fast.

AI team mates will almost always instantly get special zombies off you (unless you manage to get too far from them). Not so much with human mates, and that's where the fun resides: cooperating and covering each other.

Same with completing objectives: AI players will never complete those, you are on your own (with extra firepower, but that's it). Bringing 16 cans of gas with at the very least another human player can be both challenging and fun, doing it alone is not only hard but also tedious.

I grabbed it because Valve were giving it away :p and it's not bad. However, as others have said it's multi player game at its core and the "single player" is just offline multi player with bots. I love a good story driven single player campaign, but this isn't one of those games.

Hello,

I have noticed that most players on the servers are INCREDIBLY rude. You ask a simple question like what gamemode is this (since there are mods and such) and my god everyone gangs up on you like crazy....

When TF2 went free to play it was NOTHING like this: People were generally very friendly and helped out a lot :)
