New to Lumia 1520... need help

Recommended Posts

Hello guys, I received as gift a Lumia 1520 which I love it so far. I sold my Android phone. Now I found out that ie does not allow you to attach files to upload. It was so easy in Android, using chrome. If this is by design or I can do it with another browser? Thanks :)

All WP apps (including IE) are sandboxed so you don't have general access to the file system.  Additionally, all 3rd-party browsers use IE for rendering.  As a result, it's not possible to do what you're trying to do in the browser and is unlikely to be possible even if the specific web service(s) you're attempting use released their own apps.

I try to upload a doc file and I can't on indeed.com and another thing too very unfriendly is if you use outlook or Gmail in windows phone. You are allow to upload pictures only... Why Microsoft? Why we can't upload docs or excel files? Very dessapointed with this, other than that the OS is fine.

You can email documents from the Office Hub.  It's a bit counter-intuitive but all you have to do is open the document or spreadsheet you want to email and then select Share from the menu.

yeh sadly this is what Windows Mobile is like, limited choice and extremely locked down for the consumer. Forget about another browser, forget about another music app.

I'm not sure what Windows Mobile has to do with this discussion.  We're talking about Windows Phone.  However, if you just got the name wrong then you'll find that there are plenty of alternative music players and browsers in the store.  The browsers all use IE's rendering engine but this is no different to iOS where you're forced to use Safari.

WP offers plenty of choice for users and is only locked down for security reasons.  In practice the sandboxing is rarely limiting and is preferable to the situation with other mobile OS's which lack any security and users have to contend with viruses and malware.

yes I meant Windows Mobile. And iOS gives you opera, firefox, chrome and dolphin etc which uses different engines, so no You are wrong. Anyway, on topic, I'm sorry I can't be useful OP due to he severe locked down nature of WP.

All browsers on iOS use the UIWebView control i.e. Safari for rendering.

Is it charging when you try to shut it down?  WP automatically restarts when charging.

nope, not charging and I don't even touch anything but the phone instead of shutting down it reboot itself. Quite strange for me coming from the android world. My Sony will shut down quickly, not the same experience with the Nokia 1520.

Do you get a "slide to shutdown" screen? If you keep button pressed instead of pulling down on the screen, that's a hard reboot I think.

I found out that if you keep the power source connected it will reboot, instead of shutting down. You need to keep unplugged the power source.

That's what jakem1 meant by "charging".

I'd be using SkyDrive.

I had the same issue.  Upload a lot of files, but now that I use SkyDrive, I can't believe I ever lived without cloud storage.  The integration in WP8 is fantastic IMO.
