The story began on Tuesday morning at Saint Rose of Lima School in Chula Vista, California. A group of 23 students wrote letters to Santa, attached the letters to red and green balloons, and sent them off into the sky. The goal was for the letters to reach the North Pole.

Instead, the letter from 5-year-old Joie reached Terry Hardin, a few miles away in downtown San Diego. Hardin was leaving his job when the red balloon traveled toward him and landed in a parking garage. Intrigued, he walked toward the balloon and found the attached letter.

"Dear Santa, I would like to have a mermaid doll with a bow for Christmas. Thank you, Love, Joie," the letter read.

Hardin's mother was also named Joie

"It put a chill up my spine," Hardin told NBC 7 San Diego. "This literally came from Heaven to make things right."

So Hardin and his wife went to work by combing through Facebook and contacting local media organizations to assist in finding little Joie. The search concluded at Mrs. Garay's kindergarten class.

There, Joie met her secret Santa, and Hardin delivered her wish, gifting her a Little Mermaid doll, complete with a bow. The moment was captured on camera and uploaded to YouTube.

"You got what you wanted, Joie!" shouts one of her classmates as she opens the gift.

In the end, Hardin received what he wanted, too: a sign from his mother. And the source was just as unlikely.

So, we are teaching our kids littering our streets is okay if its for a good cause? Won't someone think of the birds who may or may not eat the balloon. I wonder how much money getting charged with littering is in the city? Well, according to this she is guilty of at least $250. The class has a total is guilty of  at least $5,750!

I suggest you immediately drive down the state capitol and voice your complaint by handing out flyers.

I just find it odd that if you post a video on YouTube of you speeding they can and will use it to arrest you four months after the fact but, something like this which gets massive media attention is like "awww, thats too cute"! I bet he made that girls Christmas and most likely something she will never forget and for that I am greatful.

It's not odd, releasing balloons is not likely to cause a car wreck, speeding is.

While you are technically correct (TBKOC!!), releasing balloons is most likely littering. But seriously, it's a $.10 latex balloon, it's made of processed tree sap and it's going to disintegrate. At the same time the kids are going to get a good science lesson. It's not like they're doing it frequently or in any large quantity.

That's a nice story. :) It's funny how life gives us just what we need, sometimes.
