Sell Me America for My Honeymoon

Recommended Posts

So later this year I'll be proposing to my girlfriend although we have started planning already.

For our honeymoon, we're pretty set on American but it is a vast and wide country.  So here's some thoughts:

We're flying from the UK.

We would like to visit a few places, quite possibly starting with New York.

We have a total of 14 days, possibly slightly less.

Half of the holiday we don't mind seeing places, other half is relaxing in the sun, so want somewhere warm!

Don't need to see the Grand Canyon or go to Las Vegas.

How long would it take to fly from New York to Los Angeles? New York to Orlando? Any estimate cost for one way trip?

If going to Orland, is Disney World day trip worth it?

I guess the Hollywood near Miami is "the" Hollywood with the sign?

After looking at Florida it seems to meet a lot of what I'm looking for. How long would it take to get from Daytona Beach to Miami? Would it be a train? Sorry, it must sound dumb, but it's hard to compare with the UK.

Thanks

Based on recent rulings and the TSA I would not recommend anyone come visit us here in the US, maybe another safer and less police staty country?

Check this out, I'm not trying to do that google knows it for you thing but I think this might be helpful..

But generally New York to Orlando is not quite 3 hours gate to gate and from Florida to California will probably be 6 or more hours.

Might I suggest looking into traveling by trains? Or even renting a car to do some sight seeing?

Huh..? I'm confused how is the USA unsafe? Millions of people travel through the US every year. I'm sure if it wasn't safe to do so we'd be hearing a lot more about it.

Despite how messed up our government is the US is a great country with lots to see so I'm not really sure how relevant your comment is. And after only 1 post, too. Congrats.

"Hollywood" with the sign is in LA not Florida.

Why not the Grand Canyon or Las Vegas?  If you've been already then that's understandable.

New York to LA is around 6 hours flying.

And if you did go with the suggestion by Trag3dy and go by train, check out the Amtrak website for a cross country journey

Actually, Grand Canyon would be the first place I would visit If I could go to America. It is among the most beautiful places I wish to see, on my 'bucket list'.

Obviously places like Disneyland is catered specifically for holidaymakers, and is best suited to make visits enjoyable and memerable.

But places like sea life and other destinations are magical enough to visit whilst on honeymoon.

Montana has nice countryside also (ok I'm just listing places I would go to and probably not helping)

I live in Chicago... and all these depend on the season you go...

Having said that,

New York (New England area) for a bed and breakfast;

south east US, Florida, Tennessee for beach and friendly people;

Midwest, Chicago, Madison, Iowa for big cities, great food, fishing?, wilderness;

then to the south west, Arizona, Texas for fun, desert like stuff, and music;

mountains, Colorado, UTAH, Montana for just plain beauty that is rare in the world;

and then the west coast for beach again, and great forests, California, Oregon, Seattle;

Outside, if you could, Alaska, and Hawaii would be amazing, but really expensive to go to Hawaii, Alaska has great cruises though.

Went to Orlando for 2 weeks a few years back.  Basically scratched the surface of the theme parks in that time.

Are we posting ridiculous things on purpose?  Police state really?  OP lemme drop some knowledge.

First of all, any and all ideas of being in NYC, LA, Miami, and Orlando in under 14 days is insane.  Its not going to happen.

Aside from the fact that spending 1 or 2 days in NYC, LA, Miami, etc is terrible planning, you'll be spending MUCH more time and money sitting down!  Why?  Because the USA is MASSIVE.

Train from NYC to Miami: 31 Hours.

Plane: between 5-7 hours

Car: between 18-19 hours

So what to do, what to do?  You pick a place and you STAY!  14 days i'd recommend 2 cities AND THATS IT!

Finally, heres some helpful advice.

1.  You tip your taxi driver, you tip your waitress, you tip your bartender.  Got it?

2.  You don't have to pay to use the toilet.

3.  If you go to a club or bar, stick with your girl.  Americans are very confident and if they hear that sexy British accent your girl is getting free drinks and a free nights stay if you know what I mean.

4.  Doohoo American beer is bad. Stereotype!  America has the best beer scene in the world AND I CAN BE QUOTED!!!

5.  Herp Derp America food is only McDonalds and Burger King.  American cities, especially NYC you just pick a culture and there will be 100 restaurants that serve that kind of food.

6.  Pizza:  New York is thin, Chicago is deep dish.

7.  The Hollywood sign is in Los Angeles, not Miami.

8.  Bring money.

I would do either New York, then a plane to Florida, or San Francisco (see the redwoods and stuff) then Hawaii.

Or New York then Hawaii. I wouldn't go more than two places. Heck, if it were me I'd just spend two weeks in Hawaii.

Fun fact, you can buy Belgian beer in the US.  :laugh:

As far as that goes, if you go to any major US city you can get most beers in the world, plus a few hundred local craft beers. I really don't think any other country out there compares.

Another Belgian bandwagon rider...  Grimbergen, Guldan Drank and St. Bernabus are all exceptional but I'll take a Sam Adams, Milwaukee Brewing Co, Three Floyds, Ale Smith, Goose Island, Sierra Nevada, or the hundreds of others first.

New York is going to be VERY expensive. I would suggest if you're interested in the beach to begin with just go there.

I live in Alaska, so it's been a while since I've been to a beach, but Alaska is the most beautiful place I've ever been. There are also a ton of great breweries all over, especially in Anchorage and Fairbanks, so if you like beer and beautiful sights Alaska isn't a bad idea as long as you come in the summer. Don't come after August 15th unless you like cold rainy/snowy weather. Prime time would be late June and all of July. This past summer we hit the upper 80's Fahrenheit for a few days, people didn't know what to do with themselves, everybody was beside themselves trying to cool down.

Having traveled most of the world (with the exception of Australia and areas) I am far from riding anyone's bandwagon.  I find that Belgians brew some of the cleanest, crispest beers.  Sam Adams and so on are nice but end up leaving me a lot more gassy.
