Windows 8.1 SkyDrive stops syncing if you resize a drive partition

Recommended Posts

Something weird I noticed: files in my SkyDrive no longer had its changes synced in the past couple of days. The only thing I remembered doing was resizing the partition holding my SkyDrive folder with EaseUS Partition Master. Somewhere along the way, doing this messed up whatever component was tracking changes in my SkyDrive folder.

Only fix I've found that seemed to work was to move the SkyDrive folder to another location and back - after doing that I can see new files being synced.

I have to say that SkyDrive syncing in 8.1 is by far more responsive than the finicky desktop SkyDrive clients in Windows 8 and prior. Still though SkyDrive has a higher tendency to mess up syncing than say Dropbox. :ermm:

Thanks for the heads up.  While I probably won't be coming around to this I'll definitely keep my eye out to see if Skydrive messes up for me at all.  I actually use Dropbox on a regular basis (where I have 26GB free storage) but I got more on Skydrive if I need it (45GB total, 25GB free + 20GB from Office 365).

(Y) on the space. I also have 45 GB due to a grandfathered account + Office 365. Also the ability to set files to offline or online-only in Windows 8.1 is incredibly helpful on my laptop, as is the redesigned Metro SkyDrive app. Still though, less finicky syncing would be nice.
