PC waking on Mouse Move or Mouse Click

Why is it on some systems the PC will wake from sleep only when you click the mouse, while on others it will wake only when you move it?

 

GF and I both have Windows 7 systems in the office. Mine has a wired Logitech G500s, hers has a wireless G700s. My mouse only wakes the system when I click it (preferred) while hers wakes the system just by moving it (annoying, every time you set something on her desk or brush past it it wakes up.)

 

Is this determined by the mouse hardware itself? Windows settings only allow you to configure whether the Mouse can or cannot wake the PC, period. Could it be because wireless mice re-establish communication with the wireless adapter when moved which triggers a wake action, wheras wired mice don't have to?

If I recall correctly, can't you set all of this in the BIOS?

if i'm not mistaken you're pretty close with the wireless/wired theory.

 

if i remember correctly some wired mice tend to disable their laser while the computer is asleep hence why those only wake with a click

There will be settings in your BIOS (UEFI) which allow you to set how you want your PC to come out of suspend mode (SLEEP MODE) eg... using your keyboard, or ON button on your case, But these settings are hardware dependent and sometimes don't work right with wireless stuff.

which is not really what he's asking. the OP is wondering why some mice have to be clicked to wake while others just have to be moved

Yes.

Yeah, there are various BIOS and Windows settings that can toggle whether the mouse itself can wake from Sleep, but I'm asking about what causes the mouse to initiate a wake action.

 

I just tested with this laptop at work (wired optical mouse) and when put to sleep the light on the optical sensor went out, which would explain my moving the mouse doesn't wake the PC, because the mouse has no way to register movement at that point.

I'll give that a try. I want the wireless mouse to wake the PC when I click it, but not when I move it.

I just tried it, seems the mouse won't wake at all. But, you can always wake by keyboard, and at least this will keep the mouse from waking on move.
