Buendia
I woke up my laptop from sleep and it showed me the desktop for just a second and then the screen turned off. I waited a bit and then turned the computer off using hardware button. On the next start, I get mostly black screen with some shades of white. Anywhere, see the pictures. I suspect it is the graphics card that malfunctioned. I tried disassembling the laptop but found nothing that could help me pinpoint the malfunctioning part. what do you think? Is there a cost efficient way to repair this thing? graphics card is ati mobility radeon x1350 128MB. also, take a look at the picture of screen connectors. The black connector looks like there are some wires missing? use this link to view pictures https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=8DC5EBA1ECD7F2A0!645&authkey=!AEHsR-XPIO9y-IQ&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=8DC5EBA1ECD7F2A0!646&authkey=!ABx9jRbMiqnrhXM&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=8DC5EBA1ECD7F2A0!647&authkey=!AOSgHaIIFbaouxw&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=8DC5EBA1ECD7F2A0!652&authkey=!AAv3kAUaZeOGuLs&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=8DC5EBA1ECD7F2A0!651&authkey=!AFyz8MIsFkvSJAo&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=8DC5EBA1ECD7F2A0!653&authkey=!AC-2_BFKsake0Ok&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg

Mockingbird
I think you screen is dead and only the backlit is coming on. Connect an external monitor to your laptop and press "fn + f4" to switch to the external monitor. Aergan 1 Share
snaphat (Myles Landwehr) Member Posted January 4, 2014 Member Share Posted January 4, 2014 Yep, looks like backlighting only. You can't make any guesses about the connector pins. They are probably just standard parts and many pins aren't actually used. It's common to see that in electronics. Aergan 1 Share
Buendia
It was the graphics card that malfunctioned, just as I suspected. A repair guy in my local PC shop did reballing of the graphics chip and now my computer works just as before.
