PS4 outselling Xbox One worldwide by 36%

Recommended Posts

This is getting tiring. The fact that they've both sold as much as they have in a month and a half should be applauded. They're both very successful and will both continue to be successful.

On second thought I'd have to question at least the X1 figure there as they were confirmed to have sold 2 million December 11th and I doubt sales slowed down enough to only sell 500k in the next few weeks after that.

I mean, according to the same vgcharts from the following article, the Xbox 1 sold 300k units the week before Xmas alone so the numbers don't really fit: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2013/12/31/wii-u-outsells-xbox-one-the-week-before-christmas-according-to-vgchartz/

I think you just answered  your question... it's vgchartz.

While the PS4 will be ahead, NPD, Chartrack, official sales PR releases, etc are the only respectable sources. Not VGChartz, regardless of how close they may ever be.

You missed my point entirely and are the only one who looks silly here.

You believed this was a current sales update and specifically stated

'...sold 2 million December 11th and I doubt sales slowed down enough to only sell 500k in the next few weeks after that.' (this update was a few days (Not weeks) after that announcement)

' ...the Xbox 1 sold 300k units the week before Xmas alone so the numbers don't really fit'  (This update was before Christmas)

Your point was to try disprove the sources integrity, but that didnt work out for you.. So no I didn't miss your attempt at trying to make a valid point.

Why are there so many of these threads? I see one every week.

Some people are interested in sales numbers I guess, other sites post it as news, people buy into stocks maybe and want to keep up to date on sales progress?

Why not just use one thread?

I doubt those numbers are correct, like stated above, there where sold 300k units the week before xmas and they where already on 2.000k in the begin of December. Beside, what's "Worldwide"? Xbox One is available in less countries than PS4. What happens as soon as it releases in the other European countries?

I didn't start these so I can only guess as to why, but new updates are usually made in new threads to put the new data on the first post.

I dont want to go through 5-10 pages of posts just to see the latest update on something like sales data.

These numbers mean absolutely nothing until its got its worldwide release and is available on store shelves.

The Xbox one has been showing availble at futureshop.ca as well as all my local stores since 3 days ago... Thats not promising, all considered.

Sales data posted above is from the 21st December 2013. Its only a few days since the 2mill mark was reached on the 11th December. (500k in ten days in the same original regions isn't too bad)

The European and Asian markets which are left have been predominantly PlayStation markets I don't see Xbox gaining much ground on those regions, but I guess only time will tell.

There probably wouldn't be any questioning of the source if it showed the xbone in the lead too.

They shouldn't post stats from VGCharts in the first place.  Only people who want to be winning far too badly do that. Though I'm not sure what this line of conversation has to do with anything as its based purely in the hypothetical and doesn't end in polite discussion

As I said earlier, both consoles should be considered a success at this point.  It's useless to keep saying one is X% ahead of the other because neither is seeing defeat.  It's good that this generation is off to such a great start.

Apparently 40 odd million = 5 million in someone's world. That's an absolutely terrible graph.

huh? Wii U has sold 5 million copies to date maybe you are referring to that? (They haven't sold 40 million if that's what your trying to get across)

The Wii U sold more units than the Xbox One in the lead-up to Christmas which might be why your confused but it has only sold 5 million units globally.

But that's mostly because its sold in the Japan region while the Xbox One isn't yet. (Nor is the PS4)

Or maybe you confused between Wii U and 3DS?

Both are Nintendo products but ones a console and the other is a handheld gaming device.

As you can see the PS Vita is also a Sony product but is in a separate column compared to the PS4.

I didn't confuse them, if you're going to make a bar chart, you don't put 5 million (Wii U) and 40 million (3DS) on the same line.

You have a valid point. But since they're both off the scale of the chart, I don't have a problem with it, unless they focus was Wii U vs. 3DS sales.

I have a bigger issue with the Vita, which is on the scale, in relation to XBone and PS4.

Oh I see now, the 45.7% being same level as the 85.6% bar. Yes two bar graphs would've made the percentage bars look more accurate rather than splitting consoles and handhelds and then putting them in one bar graph.

VGChartz is not a good source.

PS4 and Xbox One are off to a great start. Time will tell if one pulls away significantly but the wind is defintely in Sony's favour.

I do think the PS4 will reign supreme for the first few years based on price, worldwide appeal and take more share than last gen. Microsoft have shot themselves in the foot and I doubt they will recover anytime soon. Drastic changes in philosophy are needed. They got it so wrong, Sony hasn't stumbled and Microsoft don't have a year head start.

I hope previous rumours are incorrect and MS don't see this as a reason to pull out of the console market, they still have healthy sales and if the previous statements are true then MS is still lauging its way to the bank if they make a slight profit on each XB1 sold. I'm not sure If I ever heard a statement from Sony on whether its a profit or loss on the consoles but regardless that always evens itself out with time with software sales and manufacturing imporvements etc.

Before it gets to that point I think they'll release a SKU sans Kinect and drop the price accordingly. They could also free things like multiplayer, IE, Netflix from Gold and make access to them free. They would have lots of options that would make a significant difference IMO before they exited the market.

It's too early, they haven't even built up steam yet.
