Duck Dynasty?s Robertson family is launching a line of camouflage-colored guns.

The family?s 40-year-old Duck Commander company has partnered with gunmaker Mossberg to release nine different shotgun models, as well as two semiautomatic rifles and a semiautomatic pistol, according to CNN (images below).

Patriarch Phil Robertson and his sons appear in ads for the new guns on Mossberg?s web site (which currently seems to be overloaded). The website says all the firearms will come with an American flag bandana. Phil reportedly narrates one of the spots saying, ?Do you know what makes me happy ladies and gentlemen? To blow a mallard drake?s head smooth off.?

The company hasn?t announced which stores will be carry the weapons, only that shipments to distributors have already start and that prices will start at $500. Though the Duck Commander brand is centered around duck hunting, the semi-auto rifles and pistols are not typically used in the sport (though the company notes that the pistol can be used for ?small game, plinking, target shooting ? or clearing cottonmouths out of your duck blind?).

You're not a real man unless you use a .50 cal to hunt ducks.

You usually hunt ducks with a 12 gauge, which is a .73 cal. Of course it's all in your choice of projectiles.

People really buy a gun based on it being splashed in branding from a reality tv show? wow.

People buy lots of things that are endorsed by TV shows.. never mind Duck Commander *is* in the business of selling hunting gear and all. A Duck Commander toaster would be silly... a weapon used for hunting, not so much.

Special branding is done all the time to all manner of goods. Sticking to firearms, there's a big thing mow with zombie inspired firearms, ammo, and accessories largely because of programs & media like The Walking Dead. This even extends into toy guns. These are often slashed in black & fluorescent green.

Throw in a fake beard too and I'll consider it.

I dont know about that camo look but I been wanting to look at a mossberg for awhile

The mid-range Mossberg 500 is a solid, proven design (1961) with tons of aftermarket accessories. They aren't fancy or cutting edge, but taken care of your grandkids will use & pass them on. Used by US forces in the Middle East since Desert Storm, police everywhere etc.

I was in Cabela's one time looking for some target ammo for my rifle, and I saw a whole shelf end-cap of "zombie ammo" by Hornady.  The boxes were green and featured zombie apocalypse artwork with blood splatters on them.  They were just hollow-points with a little bit of neon green plastic dabbed into the cavity of the bullet to aid in expansion.

I just couldn't believe they actually existed, and then it hit me, how much money they must be making off standard ammo just by filling the tip with some green plastic and painting zombies all over the box...

The shotguns look nice because of the camo, but I've got a 12 gauge already so I'm g2g.  My old H&R Topper model single shot has served me well for years, no need to replace it.

You have an H&R Topper? I've had my 20g Topper since I was 12 - about 1962. IIRC they've been making that design since the 1890's. SOLID, supremely reliable and used to train all 4 of our kids and a grandkid in shooting clays. My grandson will probably end up giving it to his grandson.

Yep, still run around the woods and hunt squirrels, rabbits and groundhogs with it, and in the summertime I use it to keep crows out of the garden.  I just have a deer-skin pouch I carry shells in since it's a single shot.  I tried packing my dad's Remington 870 once and after about 30 minutes of packing it up and down the hillside that thing got really heavy, so I just carry my Topper cause' it's so much lighter.  It's a very simple design that "just works".  I got it from my uncle for my 16th birthday and I've had it ever since.

My mom bought a Mossberg Maverick 12 gauge for Christmas that looks very similar to the Remington 870, and it is noticeably lighter than the 870 with a plastic stock instead of wood, but I fired it once just to test fire it and it seems to function just fine.  Don't know much about Mossberg, but I hear mostly good things about them.  If I were to buy any of the Duck Dynasty guns, it would be either the Plinkster or one of the Mossberg 500s.

The Maverick isn't made in Connecticut like the 500's but in Mexico, hence the lower price. Crossbolt safety instead of tang, the mag tube is harder to extend, lower end poly stock, no sling mounts etc. Very basic.

I prefer the full-on middle range or higher 500's in either the tactical or hunting models. More customizable, light, solid as hell and reliable. You can get fancier but the 500 just flat works all day, every day. All manner of aftermarket stuff.

My ex-Ranger buddy calls the Mossberg 500 the AK of pump shotguns. That's why they sell so damned many of them.
