U.S. forces secured Fallujah in 2004 after one of the deadliest battles of the Iraq war. Fallujah became notorious among Americans when insurgents in 2004 killed four American security contractors and hung their burned bodies from a bridge.

And became notorious for Iraqis when U.S. forces open fired on unarmed protesters.

What significance did Fallujah have for the U.S. forces other than where some private security contractors were killed for them to go to such an effort in 2004 to try and secure it a few times?

Doubtful. They go pretty much where ever they want to be, they are in the U.S and in the U.K. They are in places where the U.S hasn't invaded so..

I read

Just got annoyed so didn't want to continue, Isn't half of America complaining that Obama hasn't pulled all of the troops out yet?! That guys is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. He tries to remove the Army and is told he can't because it will destabalise the country, he tries to take a slower approach and is now being told he can't because Al Qaeda is taking over the area's they have left. Seriously what is the US govt to do, if they stay people will be angry, if they leave then Al Qadea will move into those areas. This seems like an obvious inevitability?

i doubt that, their leader Mossavi -  Al Qaeda leader was in Iraq long before america invaded. people used to say same things about syria that syria didnt have al qaeda because the dictatorship kept things on a tight leash.. look what happened there.

There's really bugger all difference between them.  It's like Red vs Blue; they hate each other just because of a different colour. They're pathetic and I couldn't care less if they completely exterminate each other.

In fact, good riddance. The world could use a few less lunatics.
