Full screen redirect ad

Recommended Posts

Using on Safari for iPad, I just came across a full screen redirect ad when browsing this very forum section. Basically, went into a thread and it redirected to this ad, so I had to tap "back" a couple of times to get back to the thread. Here is the link to a screenshot (too high-res to embed):

P.S. May I suggest a sticky is made specifically for reporting bad ads to consolidate such activity? It seems to be happening more often as of late.

I get redirects on my smartphone a lot as of late, too. Not on this site, but many others.

Seems like a deliberate move from advertisers if you ask me. :/

If I understand correctly, Neowin goes to lengths to make sure that such adverts shouldn't appear. Especially redirections, that's a new one for me. I imagine that Steve will see this soon and do the necessary. Those kind of adverts annoy me as well (not on this site though, bizarre) and would turn me away if I was a newcomer.

If you get this again, take a screeny of the source page code - Right-click image/page and choose View Source. This will help the devs find the culprit faster. :)

I got this ad when viewing the site is Safari on my iPad, so I would not have that functionality. At the very least, next time, I will grab the URL of the redirect from the address bar.

We don't allow these types of ads, if you were on the iPad can you tell me if it was the mobile version of the site? Because then I can report the mobile ad to the advertiser.

No, I never use the mobile version of the site on my iPad. The advertisement was through Double Click (checked my history) and the URL of the end advertiser is pasted here: http://pastebin.com/HdgLL8JR
