msata ssd - opinion

Recommended Posts

I'm configuring a laptop and have the option to choose an msata ssd + an hdd.

Crucial 120GB M5 Series mSATA SSD for CAD 148.

Should I go for it or find an aftermarket one?

Crucial has quality stuff, you can't really go wrong with the M4 or M5 series. Go for it!

+1, I changed my OCZ Vertex Plus for a Crucial M500 and I couldn't be happier.

what about the price?

It's the same:

On newegg.ca it's for $125 + tax + shipping = $149 :p

So might as well get it within the configuration, right?

Hello,

I would suggest going with the mSATA drive.  Get as large a one as you think you will need for OS and core apps, and install secondary apps, data, and everything else on the 2.5" drive (which could be SSD, HDD or SSHD).

For the time being, I would suggest saying away from OCZ -brand products, as it is unclear who will be supporting them after the company emerges from its bankruptcy.
