win7 Computer Won't Start

6 posts in this topic

My Computer well not exit sleep mode completely and when I shut it down it will not boot. The hard drive and the CD writer spin up and the power lite comes on but that is where it stops until I unplug the computer pull out the battery and leave it sit for 5 minutes. I have tried unplugging it pulling the battery and holding the power button for 1 minute. It only seems to not start if it has been shut down. It is a Gateway NV55 laptop running win7 x64 pro. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I had someone bring a Sony laptop a few years ago that had similar symptoms of failing to start. We fixed it by yanking the CMOS battery on the motherboard.

Given the circumstances, it's probably safe to assume it is a hardware issue that's not fixable other than via the cmos battery removal stated above.
