90s Throwback Cell Phone - The Brick

Here's a cell phone with two awesome features.
1) Looks a lot like the Motorola Startac that Zack Morris used in Saved by the Bell.
2) It has a 3 month battery life

No, it does not play Angry Birds, you can't check your Facebook, it won't take HD video recordings, it's a cell phone, it makes phone calls.

I dunno, a 3 month battery life? I could see that actually being useful in some cases. Of course it's not going to be anyone's main cell phone, but hey, it could be useful to some. $70 or $100 really isn't that expensive for a new working cell phone, especially one with a key feature like 3 months of battery life.

 

Still, I think I'll stick with my N5! :D

I still have one of those ancient brick phones. I think it held a nearly full battery for almost a year. For emergency purposes, it's actually not a bad idea to keep one around.

Still, it probably won't take the abuse the original ones could. I was convinced my old nokia cityman could suvive a direct airstrike, it survived everything else :p

Hell, my old 2110 survived a trip down 2 escalators in succession, :p

 

And it would need a bigger battery housing to truly represent the Motorola 8800X (which is what it's copying)

There are phones with days of battery life with more features than this. IMO, expensive.

I was seriously considering one of these, but I genuinely need e-mail access for work :|

 

They are fantastic looking creatures and dirt cheap - I know for a fact I'll be paying over ?600 for my current phone, which is what... $1,000?  If you just need to make calls, this is a no-brainer.

How could that possibly work?  Don't those phones run on the old tdma networks that have been turned off by the carriers so the spectrum can be re-purposed?

I'm sure any smart phone would last that long too if you removed everything that runs in the background, turned off Bluetooth, wifi, etc. ect.

As long as the screen wasn't on much, with everything off, there wouldn't be much battery use.

The StarTac was a much smaller flip-phone. This looks like a Motorola DynaTac.
