export pdf to one note

Question

Is it possible to keep the "formatting" of pdf when it's exported to one note? is there a way to select and highlight text as if you would do it in a pdf reader?

I don't use OneNote so I can't try this myself, but according to this page you could just copy and paste the PDF, so long as it isn't protected.

Or you could add the PDF file as an object, but then it wouldn't be viewable from within OneNote.

Finally, this source says that using a PDF printer you can send the PDF file to OneNote.

As I said at the start though, I don't use OneNote so I have no idea which of these could work, if any of them do. Have you tried the above suggestions already?

EDIT: I've just noticed that I have OneNote 2010 installed on my work machine. I'm going to play around with it and see what happens.

Ok, my above suggestions don't work well. Or rather, they insert the PDF pages in to OneNote with their formatting intact, but they display as images. Opening the PDF file, highlighting the text and selecting copy then paste will insert the text in to OneNote, but you lose all the formatting.

Inserting it as an object works, but again this means that the pages aren't editable or viewable from within OneNote, a PDF reader has to open to display the file.

I'll keep looking and see if there are other options.

I know its possible in one respect, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how i did it.

Edit: Nope, I think Nick went down the same route I did. I "printed" to One Note which is basically just an image so although it looks the same you can't do any editing.

So far the closest solution I've found is to export the PDF file to a Word document, then copy and paste the contents of the Word document in to OneNote. But it doesn't keep all of the formatting that way; for example my tables that I exported are pretty messed up.

For your issue with the highlight tool, have you tried going to Draw > Straight line with a colour of yellow highlight (rather than "pen") and a thickness, then tried dragging it like they suggest in the link you posted? Here is how I did it:

Of course, I'm on OneNote2010, so it may be different in 2013.
