Chat client for myself and a colleague or two? (same company network)

Question

When I worked at a huge company, they used Microsoft Communicator which was very useful.

The new company I'm at only has 15 or so staff and we're looking for a chat system for 2-3 of these staff.

Any suggestions?

Systems are running Windows 7 x86 and Microsoft Office 2013.

Any kind of requirements or restrictions? I mean, is there a reason you can't create dummy accounts on Google and use Google hangouts?

Is there a chat client? I believe the Google Talk client was dropped due to Google+ Hangouts.

Lync, Skype, Spark?

Both Lync and Skype integrate well in the Office suite.

I believe Lync comes with Office 365 only, doesn't it?

You're correct about Google Talk being dropped, but I don't know about a standalone client. I wasn't specifically suggesting Google Hangouts, I was more asking if there was a reason that you hadn't considered something along these lines. For example, set up a couple of hotmail accounts and then install something like Trillian (is it Trillian that I'm thinking of? The multi-purpose IM client?).

Used Spark at my last job.  Was free but I think if you wanted support/server software...you had to pay.

I work in a Marketing team of 6 spread about between Newcastle & London.  We also have 4 offshore staff in India and a Sales Manager in Edinburgh for one of our other brands.

We all use the standalone version of Google Talk, rather than Hangouts and it works a treat.  It's quite useful because the chat logs are saved to your GMail account and can be accessed anywhere, just in case you need to recap on anything discussed.
