Halo 5 concept art

Looks nice. Halo 4 was a gorgeous game, so I'm sure this will be as well.

Halo 4 was one of the most visually stunning games last gen, I cannot even fathom how pretty this new game will be. Also hoping with the added power of the XB1 we'll see some great large scale conflicts.

^ Agreed. If there is one thing Halo 4 did right, it was the graphics. For a series on it's 6th (main) installment it looked so fresh too. I wish the locations were more open to explore though.

Same here. I hope they make a gorgeous game that is still open to explore.

The limits on the size of the environments in Halo 4 had to be a direct trade off in order to gain better visuals.  Something I doubt they'll have a issue with on the XB1 and it's better hardware compared to the 360.   People fault Halo 4 for it's MP but I really liked the SP and if they can make it a tad bit more open world without going too far ( I hate games like Far Cry that are very open world and give up the story side of things) then all the better.   Easy thing to do is have levels that allow for many ways for players to go through them and finish them while still being linear enough for story purposes then it should work out great.

As for as visuals, they said 1080p and 60 frames per second so I'm expecting a custom engine made for the custom nature of the XB1 hardware itself and if it turns out good I'm sure MS will let other developers use it as well, would be worth it.

I don't think they ever said 1080p. I know there was a site or two saying that, but I've never heard or read anything from a Microsoft or 343 employee stating as much.

They said it when they first teased it to the public with the initial Xbox One reveal.  Some women was on stage and said that they're working on a new game engine from the start that will bring 1080p and 60fps.  Don't know if you can still find the video from back then but that's the way I remember it.

That's pretty impressive, and it's 1440p but only 1 frame per second.

One frame a week, do you see the detail those poor artists are working at?

No, only 60fps was announced, and that was at E3, not the Xbox One announcement.

Edit: Here's a video of the announcement.

I stand corrected but at the same time I doubt they're aiming only for 60fps and not for 1080p as well.

I'm sure they're aiming for it, but I don't know they'll be able to reach it. They surely want the game to look best, and early in the generation that will come at resolution. The same thing happened with Halo 3.

We'll see what they're going for, I don't think res has to take a hit, they've probably been working on this long enough compared to your typical launch title to where they can get 1080p and 60 frames without needing to cut anything out.  We'll have to wait and see of course but I have a feeling they'll have the first engine that takes advantage of the custom bits inside the XB1 SoC.  We're still talking about a fall/winter release here.

I don't think they've been working on it that long  Halo 4 came out in 2012 so only a 2yr cycle like most studios. They even said in the OP article they've been porting their engine to X1. I doubt it's going to be a huge improvement.

Bungie was making H3 for 3yrs+

Yup, that's my thought as well. I imagine we'll see it at 900p or so, which is perfectly fine given how hard it is to tell the difference between that and 1080p.

The difference in early last-generation titles (including "Halo 3") and 720p was drastic -- it had a major impact on aliasing.
