Hey

Firstly I am aware that this is Stupid and I deserve all the abuse I am about to get but I have wiped my old laptop. I Factory reset it after asking my wife if she had anything on it she wanted to keep. I did it and a few weeks later we realised that our honeymoon photos were not saved.

Can anyone suggested how I get them back if it is even possible. I do not care if I have to pay for the software package or how much it costs.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525. I am not sure if that helps but any input would be much appreciated

Thanks.

Might just want to skip ahead and get a head start by signing up on dating sites now.

Do not boot that thing up again. You'll be constantly writing to disc increasing your chances of never getting anything back. You need to attach the disc to another computer, boot up as normal and use some software to scan the laptop drive.

A free bit of software I like is Recuva although depending on how deep you need to scan other tools might be needed.

When you delete files, they're actually still there until you overwrite them (factory reset might have overwritten your photos), there are tools that can scan your HDD for deleted files and recover them, I can personally recommend Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva). I'd recommend to use another PC to do this as simply using your HDD might overwrite more files.

EDIT: What ]SK[ says  :D

Remove the drive and mount it in an external container then use something like PC Inspector  to scan for and recover files. You could do a bit by bit Ghost image of the drive which would enable you to work on recovery without risk to the original.

I usually use Active@ UNDELETE

Signature search can find a lot of deleted stuff. It also has a built in disk image function.

Recuva is a good choice! If it doesn't work, there's a small chance Stellar Phoenix would work, but it costs: http://www.stellarinfo.com/
