[Google Music Manager] A guide to backing up, restoring and modifying the database file

Recommended Posts

Here's a guide on how to backup, restore and modify Google Music Manager's database. I had to re-upload 90GB of music on more than one occasion. I hope this will save your the trouble.

Backing up the database

  1. Browse to c:\users\%username%\appdata\local\google\musicmanager\serverdb.db.
  2. Copy that file to a safe location.

Restoring the database

  1. Install GMM. Once the Add Music wizard opens, cancel it and close GMM completely.
  2. Copy the file you previously backed-up to the same location.
  3. Start GMM again.

Change the music path inside the database file

  1. Close GMM.
  2. Open serverdb.db with SQLite Database Browser.
  3. Switch to the Browse Data tab.
  4. Goto the Roots table and modify the path to your liking.

Re-upload deleted music to Google Play Music

  1. Close GMM.
  2. Open serverdb.db with SQLite Database Browser.
  3. Switch to the Browse Data tab and select the XFILES table.
  4. Find your files and look for MusicUploadStatus.
  5. Value of 2 means it's already been uploaded. Change it to zero.
  6. Re-open GMM and the files should now be re-uploaded.
