Google announces Play Edition Moto G

The Moto G has landed in the Google Play store running stock Android. The phone is selling for as low as $179 unlocked and will work on AT&T and T-Mobile. Unlike other non-Google phones that end up in its store however, there really isn't much of a change here: the Moto G was already running nearly-stock Android and only sold off contract. Buying a Google Play edition model may result in owners getting faster updates to new version of Android though, and that's at least one big reason to buy direct from Google.

Low-cost Nexus device, anybody?

This continued lack of GE editions outside the USA is so annoying.

Agreed, was just going to post the same. I think the Google Play editions of popular devices are a great idea.

^^ That gif never gets old

MotoG seems to be a cool low cost phone. Best I would say.

But putting in 100$ or so extra, Nexus 5 would be more future proof choice, isn't it?

Almost $200 extra.  N5s start at 350
