Dell Venue Pro 8 - Who has it?

Recommended Posts

I only had it in my hands for a minute when I set up the wifi for her. It feels like a nice piece of hardware. It's about 4-5 pounds. I think that's too heavy for very much one-handed use.

I think you are confused at what we are talking about here, the tablet we are discussing is 0.9lbs max.

I have one and love it!

Got mine for $99.99 during the special they had during X-mas. In fact we got two of them at that price. The first one of mine had a problem and we returned it and got another one.

Since then no problems. Light, fast and does what I need to do. This is full blown Windows 8.1 not RT and can run Metro apps and Desktop apps.

I have several games, Gmail, Hotmail, news and work apps. I like small devices as it fits my hands better and I have no problem in seeing them.

The USB port is for charging but is also a regular USB. You can plug devices in there. The video posted above is what sold me on it. The stylus is terrible. I use a stylus like pen with rubber point.

It works really well. I also did get the Dell Folio cover which works fine. Just the Dell stylus is no good. Stay away from that please.

It is a fun tablet which I turn to often. You will like it also. The Lenovo Miix also looks good. That seems to be a good alternative. I do have to add a SD card to expand the storage and unlike Android you an install files and apps to the SD card.

When Dell comes out with a better tablet in the future I will upgrade to that. I am very confident in this line from Dell. So I really recommend it!

Would the Jot stylus work? I have one for my iPad. Still looking for a good PDF creator which would let me write on it as well.

This is the stylus I use: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Targus-Stylus-for-iPad-Pink/17237656

Works great. Never heard of the Jot Stylus before. Since it is full blown Windows any PDF creator should work. Now as for as writing I personally have not done that yet and with the stylus I use I don't know if it would be comfortable.

Thank you, but not a style I'd like. I enjoy my Jot Pro for nice hand writing.

Is there a wireless mouse that doesn't require a USB port for Windows?

You can get a mouse that runs on Bluetooth if the tablet has that builtin.

I have a 32GB version. I like it. It's definitely not 4-5 pounds lol. The biggest frustration is that you can't charge it when you have other USB devices plugged into  the micro-usb. I've read there are hacks that you can do to USB cords to get around it though. Does anybody know if the micro-usb is USB 3.0 or USB 2.0?

How's your touch screen? I have to touch a certain area multiple times just to do a function (ie: close a tab).

There's a series of cables you can buy from DealExtreme (www.dx.com) for around $10 that allow it without hacking the USB cable

I'm getting mine today. Picked up the 64GB one for $176 USD shipped from Dell. I'm excited. My biggest complaint with both of my Android tablets was that it wasn't really any different than my phone. And since I've always had a flagship smartphone (Galaxy Nexus, LG G2) a phone with a larger screen didn't do much for me. 10" was too big since I have a 13" ultrabook and the 7" weren't much bigger than my 5.2" phone. Plus websites never render 100% properly on the Android devices anyways.

I'm hoping the 8" format is a good compromise between the two. Only issue is lack of Google apps (Gmail)

For those that have this tablet, I bought the on the go USB cable, everything that I hook up to it worked but my portable external HDD does not. It makes the connect sound, the light on the HDD is on, but not showing up. Any ideas?

I do see it under Devices and Printers.
