fusi0n Posted January 19, 2014 Share Posted January 19, 2014 Over the weekend, I decided to go back from my Galaxy S4 to an iPhone 5S 64GB. For those who don't follow my mobile post on here, I have been a huge advocate for android and also released two custom roms, NeoDroid and FusDroid. The reason for me to go back to iPhone was stability and for the email management. In the past, I have issues with most Android phones and Exchange. I do miss the ability to customize and widgets, but it was a compromise I had to make. What I was not aware of was that Google turned off gmail to be setup as Exchange for free Gmail users.. That sucks. I really like the fingerprint reader. Makes it a lot easier to unlock your phone and to buy apps. iOS 7 has come a long way. It is a lot easier to get around and access to music playing, turning on/off features such as wifi and bluetooth. I don't mind using iTunes to mange my music on my phone, however I do miss being able to copy videos to it without converting and just drag and dropping it. The Camera is pretty good. Not sure if it is as good as the S4 camera, but it works well. I also miss being able to save files to the device and emailing them. In the end, it is a great phone and will help me with my job. It also made sense to go back to an iPhone because I just started a new job and my computer will be an iMac, I have an iPad for home and I'm sure they'll give me an iPad for work and also my main computer is a Macbook Pro.. Mr.XXIV Posted January 20, 2014 Share Posted January 20, 2014 It's the fact that he has an iPad and an iMac, it makes more sense to have an iPhone because within all his devices, he'll be able to stay exclusively in-sync without relying on 3rd party services (besides exchange). I understand your struggle with the media, and I do wish that MKV files will be a native add-in. But I have to respect the independence in Apple's devices (M4A, M4V, etc, they're higher quality). In the long run, I'll give you 1000 things that'll leave you highly organized as a Mac user. Actually, iCloud Mail. It's more straightforward than Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook for such a 1st party service. User6060 Posted January 20, 2014 Share Posted January 20, 2014 you can drag and drop movie files (avi,mkv) without converting if you download one of the many many video apps like VLC for iOS. just add the movie to the app through iTunes like you would any document in the app tab, file sharing area you can save files fine through safari or stuff if you have a file manager app like iFiles or good reader, use the open in button and you get a list of apps that read/store that particular file type. you can email attach anything from iFiles. vip Posted February 25, 2014 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Funny, I also went from my S4 to a 64gb iPhone 5S yesterday. I love the aspects of both operating systems, but in the end I guess I will always love iOS a bit more. I do miss my camera, and the wide screen ... and I miss SwiftKey Keyboard. Were there no 3rd party solutions to this on Android? iOS has decent Exchange support, but I still prefer the 3rd party app "Mail+ for Outlook" for my work's Exchange server. IMO, it has a better feature set than what comes on iOS. I would image that something similar is available on Android. Not that I take any issue with you switching to iOS. If you want to host MKV files on a Windows or Mac computer, Air Video HD is great (server side transcoding). If you want to store your MKV files on your iOS devices, I'm fairly sure VLC and "HD Player" will play them...there are probably other 3rd party apps that will work as well. If you want to convert the files into a completely "Apple friendly" format, Handbreak is a great transcoder with lots of Apple profiles (i.e., iPad, AppleTV). typu Posted April 18, 2014 Share Posted April 18, 2014 i switched from my nexus 4 to the iphone 5s. the iphone 5s is, in my opinion, the first really capable iphone. its just blazingly fast. overall never been as satisfied with a mobile phone as with this one and im no apple advocate at all. i had a windows phone (one of the first tho), several android phones, the iphone 3gs and now the 5s. Got the iPhone 5S, and a lot of my frustrations with the earlier versions of iOS aren't a problem any more. There is plenty of functionality that is similar to Android (notification center and control center). I'm just not getting good battery life with the 5S. With the HTC One/Nexus 5, I would easily have 40-50% battery life at the end of the day (right before I plug it in when I sleep), but with the iPhone, I'm closer to 10% battery life left, which is not ideal. I also miss the bigger screen, keyboard is still subpar, speakers suck compared to the HTC One (but every phone does), call quality is not that great compared to One. I could do that, but that defeats having a smartphone. I would rather it push emails unless I was in a crunch for battery. I could try turning off Siri, I just don't see it useful as Google Now. I like that Google gives you the Google search app, which shows you all the Google Now cards. I like having Find my iPhone on, just in case. I shouldn't have to sacrifice these features for battery, but I guess I have to if I want the same kind of battery life as I got with my Android devices.
