MariosX
Hello! I want to upgrade my GPU [sapphire HD4870 1GB] and I'm eyeing an R9 270X, but I cannot decide which brand and version I should get [For example Sapphire has Toxic and Boost OC verisons], and also many brands/versions have different clock & memory speeds and different size in GDDR5. And I'm kinda confused which one should I get. Please note I am not going to upgrade my GPU for another 6 years and I want to get the best available in the price range of [180 - 250?] and I am not willing to pay anymore than that. My system specs are these: Case: Coolermaster Cosmos RC1000 PSU: Coolermaster M850 CPU: Intel Core i7 920 M/B: MSI X58A-GD65 RAM: OCZ 1600Mhz [@1600 8-8-8-24], 3x2GB. Will upgrade to 6x2GB [same sppeds] GPU: Sapphire HD4870 1GB HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB [OS], 2x1 Western Digital Caviar Black Sata 3 [Raid0], 1x640GB Western Digital Caviar Black Sata 3 [Thinking of getting an SSD] 1) Should I get worried about bottlenecks? I believe I've got a decent PC even if it is Core i7 first gen 2) Can you suggest any nvidia cards as well? Thanks
Luc2k
I wouldn't worry too much about the clock the cards come with. The most important thing IMO is the cooling (both temperature and noise), then price and warranty. MSI has the best 2-fan cooling right now if I'm not mistaken. For memory, it depends on what resolution you use. 2GB might be pushing it if you run something like 2560x1440/1600. 1) You're ok here. 2) 660 Ti/760. snaphat (Myles Landwehr) Member Posted January 20, 2014 Member Share Posted January 20, 2014 The board is PCIe 2, your processor is still very good, and your memory is a good speed: so none of these things are issues.

Astra.Xtreme
Intel massively improved the floating point performance between the 1st and 2nd gen i CPUs, but I don't think it's too much to be concerned about. I personally prefer Nvidia, so the GTX 760 would be the alternative to the R9 270X. It's a little bit more expensive, but it's a faster card as well. casper2
PowerColor DEVIL AXR9 270X $234.99 or HIS IceQ X? Turbo Boost Clock $229.99 I'd go with either those 2 cards for the price its good deal on them.
