More Xbox One exclusives planned for announcement in 2014

"I want to have a great E3 this year," says Phil Spencer

Hands up who fancies a couple more Xbox One exclusive announcements in 2014. You? And you? Rejoice; Microsoft's Phil Spencer has confirmed via his Twitter feed that they're coming, and strongly hinted that this coming E3 will be a good one for Xbox fans.

@Ryuu179961 We will have announces in 2014, already working on the plan. I want to have a great E3 this year.? Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) January 20, 2014

So what announcements can we expect at E3? Well, perhaps we'll finally get a look at whatever Black Tusk are working on, or maybe we'll hear more on Lionhead's rumoured "unannounced project." Is it something new from Epic Games, perchance? Or maybe, just maybe, it's something else entirely. Keep a weather eye on that horizon.

'Xbox One Exclusives Will Be Coming To E3 2014' - Phil Spencer

Paul Walker

Microsoft's Phil Spencer has promised that the Xbox One will be getting more exclusives in 2014 and hinted that release dates for Halo, Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive will be announced.

Published on Jan 20, 2014

Microsoft's Phil Spencer has responded to a fan query about Xbox One exclusives by promising that Microsoft will have Xbox One exclusives to announce in 2014.

"We will have announces [sic] in 2014, already working on the plan. I want to have a great E3 this year," said Spencer on Twitter, as spotted by OXM.

While Spencer doesn't specifically say that E3 is the time to expect an announcement regarding Xbox One exclusives, the juxtaposition of his promise of new announcements with the comment that Microsoft will have "a great E3 this year" heavily implies that will be the case.

Spencer also replied to a question regarding release dates for Halo, Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive, saying, "Most of those will be clear to fans by the end of our E3 briefing."

So it seems that as well as new Xbox One exclusives, we can also expect news of release dates for one or more of Halo, Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive at E3 2014.

My guesses for exclusives:

State of Decay

Forza Horizon 2

another Kinect exclusive by Swery, and maybe another game by a more "traditional" Japanese dev.

They'll also probably announce a deal with Ubisoft for timed DLC for Tom Clancy's The Division.

More games will be announced in the future? No way! Next they'll tell me something else equally crazy like "water gets everything it touches wet".

While obvious, I think it's good he wants to emphasize their pace on the gaming front to squash the "tv, tv, tv" crowd. Especially when they have already announced double digit games for the 1st year already.

That would be nice as E3 is right around the time I'm planning on picking up an Xbox One (if I don't cave sooner).

Get one sooner and you can play Titanfall with me.

I hope Forza Horizon is on the horizon.

In every interview he's had he's hinted that they're working on a large number of projects and have the first two years covered. They also said from the start that they're investing a lot into exclusives, it's a shame some keep questioning them just because they're not showing everything they have in the works from day one.  I expect to hear about new stuff after titanfall is out in March, they don't want to have overlap with their exclusives I'm sure and titanfall is the next big game that's coming for Xbox.

Hopefully the games are native 1080.

I am picking up an xbox one sometime soon, and it bothers me that it's next gen, and their launch games cant or wont do 1080 out of the box.   I don't get it.

I wish they would port over gta 5 for it.

Well they did say 15 exclusives at their first announcement, so I imagine what they have announced and not released will also be promoted in this.

If they are announcing new games I predict that we may be seeing:
- Forza Horizon 2

- Another Banjo-Kazooie game

- Crackdown 3

- State of Decay 2 (either a sequel or the full blown MMO)

- Probably some JRPG's to appeal to the Japanese launch.

What I'd really like announced is:
- Conker's Bad Fur Day 2

- Project Gotham Racing

- Perfect Dark 2

- Viva Pinata 3

Halo has already been announced...

Not really, It was just some concept art and a CGI trailer shown off and only really tells us that they are working on something. I am talking about a big official reveal of Halo 5 with the possibility of another Halo game that does not follow the main story line and possibly Halo 2: Anniversary.

If only. Sadly, even if one is made, it's not the same people so will not be a true PGR :(

RTW said they won't work with MS on Crackdown again and Ruffian Games are making a PC title, confirming they're not working on Crackdown 3. Many of the complaints over 2 were because of Ruffian so I'm not sure MS would chance it for a 3rd developer.

Thanks for the persuasive argument and well thought out response......

Totally wishful thinking I know, but another PGR could still be amazing if done right. Codemasters maybe?

As for another Crackdown, even if MS wanted RTW they closed their doors years ago, and they wouldn't risk Ruffian again. So they would have to chance a 3rd dev if they are serious about continuing the series.

Been waiting years for the next Viva Pinata. It's now time. All these IPs Microsoft owns they should push.

Oh god I hope not. They haven't put effort into their racing series for years. I'd rather it stayed dead than go to Codies.

It'll never happen but I think Criterion (or at least the Ghost team who splintered), could make a good PGR.

Maybe. It's still early days yet. All it takes is one great IP for some people.

It's nice to see more VP fans on the board! It's a shame the series wasn't given the respect it deserved at its time of release. I swear it's still one of the deepest, most addictive "RTSs" the consoles have ever had.

Ah see I've only play up until Grid and Dirt 2, so I still have massive respect for them for that.

Criterion would actually be a nice match, but I assume they'll be the Need for Speed team from now on.

Viva Pinata was an excellent game, never really got a chance to play much of the second game but a Third game would be amazing. WE NEED A PETITION FOR THIS!

Why would a new PGR need to be done by a 3rd party developer? MSS has expanded their internal studios along with buying a few etc. It could be done in house, same for a new crackdown. Regardless I think KI isn't going to be the only IP we see them bring back with a new version.  I expect a good mix of old and new through the life of the XB1.  As far as the Japanese market goes, they'd need to buy or make a true exclusive deal with a few developers so they have games only for the XB1 otherwise like before the Japanese gamers will just wait for any timed exclusive games to come out for the PS4 and then buy them, not really an answer IMO.

Horizon is already damn close to PGR. Horizon 2 could potentially be what a new PGR would be. And it solves another problem with car games, they're damn expensive to do thanks to the time and cost of doing the car models and simulations. the next Horizons will like the previous one share the car data and simulation engine with Forza(interestingly this also makes it very close with PGR as PGR had a very advanced sim engine in the back, but it was tuned down for arcade mode) saving a lot of development cost and even time.

I wish they would share DLC cars between regular Forza and Horizon though.

as for a new Horizon, they've practically already stated it will be and that horizon and Forza will likely be a bi annual release, Forza one year, Horizon the next.

No chance. They already cancelled these projects for the 360 and given the current state of Rare I wouldnt expect anything out of them other than Kinect Sports sequels. Heck they didnt even make KI3.

Which just means some other studio can make them, the management that was in place when those were canned for the 360 are gone so anything is possible.

It doesn't matter who it's done by is the point I was making. It wouldn't be PGR. Same goes for Crackdown.

We've discussed this before but I strongly disagree with Horizon/PGR comparisons. Almost blasphemous to the PGR series to compare the two (N)
