Warning about old topics...

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This happens sometimes when a spam bot bumps a post up or below a thread when "Also tagged with one or more of these keywords: " appears, someone clicks on it and posts....

After x time, when replying to a old thread, a warning box (might like the you have been warned by a mod, click her to ack) should appear "This thread has not had activity in x time/days/month/years. You might want to consider making a new thread".

No, this is handled at the discretion of our moderators.

I always thought that was stupid to have a pop up or something similar to that saying this is an old thread/topic.

So what,

If it's what it you were looking for and you reply, it's NOT an old thread/topic anymore! :)

Good suggestion, although I knew this was the response you were going to get because this suggestion was asked not too long ago by another member. :) I think the admins just like to keep the staff on their toes. :p

I still think this should be considered. just have a notice above the post box just like you do about rule breaking.

i think it's a good idea because all too often if a several year old thread gets bumped then many of those that see it appear in the minispy don't realize and start replying to the old posts/questions thinking they're recent

all that's being suggested is a way to let people realize that a thread is x# of years old

A majority of bumps come from one-post wonders or bots, I believe. As such they're not going to heed the warning anyway. And like cork1958 mentioned, other people revive an old thread because their post is related to the content.

Anyway, this wouldn't automate any action. It would just create a speedbump for everyone trying to post, which I imagine would annoy most people. I know it would annoy me.

the suggestion isn't really for the one-post wanderers though, it's more for those that see the thread in the minispy or at the top of a section after the thread gets bumped
