Boo Berry
iTunes on Windows doesn't require QuickTime to be installed anymore. Why? iTunes bundles the binaries needed for iTunes to function correctly with audio and video.
riahc3
Hello, VLC still hasn't failed to play the obscure .MOV file I may still come across every once in a blue moon. Get off this proprietary crap.VLC doesn't support DRM which the OP needs.

Active.
I think Microsoft should be encouraged to include the free and open-source Apple Lossless audio codec with Windows (either in the spring update for 8.1 or in Windows 9), so that it works out of the box using WMP or the Store Apps. Because as far as (DRM-free) distribution codecs are concerned, Apple and MS ? at last ? have otherwise basically standardised on the same media formats, i.e. H.264 and AAC/MP4)
Evelyn Harthbrooke
Hence my "get off this proprietary crap". Don't encourage the use of this garbage. VLC is not garbage. VLC isn't even supposed to play DRM protected files as DRM is stupid, useless and unneeded.
Active.
VLC is not garbage. I think he was actually talking about QuickTime (and indeed DRM), which I've never been particularly fond of, on Windows at least, either.

Yeah. Not sure how anyone could've confused this.
