Surface Pro Issues

Recommended Posts

So... I just bought a Surface Pro (the original) as my work tablet.  I did all of the necessary Windows Updates, and set up my store account properly.  I open up the store app, and go to update to Windows 8.1, and I click on the tile and nothing happens.  I've tried running wsreset.exe, and I've tried doing a system restore, and I have had no luck even being able to start the download.

I can tap all of the other tiles in the store app, it's just the gigantic one that says upgrade to windows 8.1 that just sits there.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have gotten this before on some of the surface pros that we use.  Three questions:

1. Does it eventually time out and give you an error code?

2. Can you download and install any other apps from the app store?

3. Make sure you have KB2871389 installed on the surface.  Without that update, Win8.1 cannot install.  You can download it manually from MS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2871389

What happens when you try to download an app from the store?

Same exact thing.  It just sat there.  No error message, no time outs, nothing.  I finally got it working this morning after 4 of the full system resets.

I think when you click it sometimes it will start the download in the background without an obvious notification, and then notify you when it's ready to go on (basically skipping a step where it notifies you of this)
