build Is This a Good Build?

I wanted to see if the parts are good for gaming, media production, and software development. I rushed a little. Also, I need some suggestions to get the price down to at least $1500 if possible.

CPU - awesome

Cooler - for that price i'd get a Corsair closed-loop cooler. theyre pretty awesome.

Mobo - dont know anything about this one, but GA supposedly makes good boards

Memory - I'd go for 16GB, given the low price

Storage - I have an M4, and it's great, but it's a few generations behind now. i'd look to the Samsungs or newer Crucials

Video Card - I also have (2) 680s and it's great, but they arent the latest 700s series. if you want to spend $500 on a video card, pick the 700 series.

Case - Fine, dont know

PSU - you'll want more than 600W on the PSU if youre buying (2) video cards.

 

To bring the cost down immediately, i'd choose a single video card. that way you can save up and buy the 2nd one down the road.

Video card(s) - as Jason S. said, should you want to stay with 680 performance levels, take 770 instead, because 770 is just that, but with higher clock speeds. See about PSU below.

Otherwise, perhaps, a single card like 780 Ti will suffice. In that case you can keep your CX600.

 

PSU - it depends on what video card setup you choose. For SLI you'll have to take something higher (CX750, perhaps, if you're limited by your budget), because CX600 has only 550W on the +12V rail - you fall short of PCPartPicker's estimation (which is quite right, but note that power consumption isn't a static figure - it fluctuates depending on how complex number crunching the hardware is subjected to, and, consequently, for short bursts consumption can exceed the TDP while still keeping inside the safe thermal envelope).

 

Case - very good choice. Spacious, easy to build and manage, silent, good looking.

 

Storage - you'll run out of 64 GB very soon. Besides, 64 GB are often slower than larger models of the same series.

Are you going to overclock? You can save money by getting a i7 4770

Motherboard seems a little excessive 

 

GPU - What resolution are you gaming at?

PSU - If you really need SLI, you'll definitely want a better PSU.

 

SSD - Get something more than 64 GB!

I have a 1TB 7200RPM hybrid drive now, 16GB of the same RAM, and a 128GB SSD Samsung Pro SSD (for OS and some games, and the hybrid can take the rest). I changed the board to an Asus, since I've had two Asus boards and one Gigabyte, and I have had a generally better experience with the Asus boards. Got a better PSU too, and I changed the cooler to the H100i, which I have in my last build. I really like it.

 

I am going to overclock. I will be gaming at 1080p, and I will have two monitors.

 

I've been wondering if a R9 290X would be good, but I've always used Intel + Nvidia, so I don't know from experience.
