I managed to get my hands on a PS4. Now to avoid my being ripped a new one by my wife

Recommended Posts

I strolled into a GameStop on my way home from work yesterday.

My Exact words:  Let me ask you the dumb question of the day.  Do you have any PS4's in stock?

GameStop employee (who looked like a 12yr old boy  :woot: ):  Yes we do.  Would you like one?

Me:  (Silent for about 10seconds.  Was caught off guard by him answering yes)  Yes I would like one thank you....

Now the real problem. I managed to sneak the PS4 into the house and past my wife without her noticing.  I told my wife I would only get one console this gen.  And she already knows I have a Xbox One.

Now I have 30days (GameStops return period as of today, on unopened items) to decide if the PS4 is worth the wrath of Mrs. W.... :/

I was in a similar situation 2 weeks ago...she sent me to WalMart after work for garbage bags paper towels etc. So there I am wandering the store and I see an employee pushing a cart towards electronics to stock the dept. with a ps4 on top. I snagged it and when I walked through the door carrying the console by the handle she laughed and said "couldn't help yourself could you".

Would she actually notice another console?  or maybe you can just swap it out for the ps3 (if you have one).  Last year I replaced a panasonic bluray player with a pioneer elite and it took my wife a good 3 weeks to realize it was different than the one that was there..

This man knows his stuff!  Just swap it in and out when you need to use it, so she only ever see's one console at any one point!

Ask / beg to buy one, then if she says yes, find a time to show it off (like you went out and purchased it).

If no, then may want to consider returning.

She will definitely notice... For her not to pay attention to those type of things, she would definitely notice...

Looks like we know who wears the trousers in the Watson residence :p

Open it up and get to it man!

It was calling my name last night, telling me to open it...

Now that today is Friday, and I don't have to work tomorrow, the temptation is going to be magnified.. :woot:

Didn't you already have one on pre-order...

I canceled the pre-order the day before release day...  A happy wife is a happy house... LOL

I say show her but then tell her you planned a day of shoe shopping already!

You will sit there and not complain that she's taking 3hrs in 1 store and she is also allowed to buy that purse she wanted from Michael Kors now :p

add up all her makeup, hairspray, shampoo, moisturizer, nail polish, trips to the salon, nail maintenance, shoes etc. That easily comes to more then a PS4 in just a few months.

My advise is this: tell her now before the 30 day return period is over, that way if she's really ######, you can easily return it, but don't return it right away. Try to convince her to let you keep it by promising her something she really wants, like new clothes, or small appliances, or something that will make her happy, like a spa day or something along those lines. If she's still not convinced by the end of the 30 days and the PS4 is still unopened, you can still return it.

Ok first of all, I don't know if you should be asking for marital advice on a tech site, much less a gaming forum

Regardless, I would say good strategies include buying her something she really wants to offset your purchase, or trying to swap it out. I would caution against the swap or anything that involves hiding it since these things tend to find a way to reveal themselves. I don't care how well you think its hidden, best to assume it will happen.

I'm one of the lucky few with a wife that is as big a gamer as I am, so we had both already accepted the fact that I would be getting both. Now the plan was not to get both at launch, so that was a bit of a shock, but it works out.

True, you would know
