Best Device to Watch Hard Drive files on Monitor?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

As the title says, what's the best device I can use to watch my .mkv files and .avi files on my monitor. It is just a monitor with out the computer. I only have a tablet and not a laptop.

I was thinking of the Roku 3 with its USB port. Are there any other devices out there?

There are many tablets that can do that, but most need some sort of adapter, my note 10.1 needs something like that, but I don't watch movies on it, so for me it didn't matter, a lot of phones already do that, but again, need adapters (unless they have micro hdmi ports ala Nokia n8, for example) , the easiest way would be with a laptop, unless the monitor has a hdmi port and built in speakers, that then opens the field to devices such as the raspberry pi, etc...

my pc is near my TV, so I have a HDMI cable running between the PC and the TV, using the tv as an occasional third screen dedicated to full screen video. I can also send sound down the HDMI cable so its pretty neat (y)

Hello,

BTW, I posted here thinking this was the hardware section...

We can move it to the Hardware section if you like but it's fine here too.

This thing plays files off a hard drive just fine plus it recognizes ntfs!

Sony dbp-s3100 .. PLUS the price just dropped $10 down to $79 at Wal-Mart. It also has Amazon instant Video built in
