What is the best Antivirus\Anti-spam program for Windows 8.1

Question

Can anyone please advise me on what the best Antivirus\Anti-Spam software there is available for Windows 8.1 and I need the Ant-Spam to work on an Exchange Mailbox through Outlook 2013 (I don't need a firewall as this is all sorted)

Thanks in advance

Personally,

I think AV's are way over rated unless maybe you're into some REALLY shady stuff.

I've never had an AV program tell me anything other than the page I may be trying to access is blocked.

I know if AV's were really any good, I wouldn't have to be working on my brothers computer so often!!

Kaspersky is my favorite for AV, but I can't say on anti-spam as I use GMail as does our school.  I haven't needed anti-spam in years.

Might check out Mailwasher or Cloudmark.  I used Cloudmark YEARS ago and liked it.  Spamihilator might be one to look at, as well.

I think AVs are a must.  Even if you don't really use them, all it takes is once.  I rarely if ever run into aything, but all it takes is one malicious ad on a website.

 Well, outside of using your brain: that should always be a requirement!

Hello,

Perhaps the following two message threads may be of assistance:

Definitive Best *Paid* Antivirus 2014

Definitive Best *Free* Antivirus 2014

You might find some help information in them on which to base a decision.

I was going to suggest this as well however, if you go by the AV Test website Avira Antivirus has the best Performance and capture rate of any antivirus for Windows 8.1 which i think i strange being that they do not do so well with Windows 7 or XP

For antivirus I use the built-in Windows Defender, with occasional scans with Malwarebytes Antimalware as a second opinion. Not the Defender is bad, it's just that nothing is 100% effective. That combined with common sense about what I do seems to do the trick.

GMail is pretty effective at filtering spam, so I don't really bother with a separate spam filter.
