In this thread I make predictions on the future of Windows / MSFT branding

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the unimaginative title.  Anyway, been mulling this idea around in my head, and now that Skydrive has been renamed OneDrive, I'd like to speculate that Windows 9 will not be called Windows 9 at all, but Windows One.  The next version of Windows Phone (after 8.1) will either be Windows Phone One or OnePhone.  I might go so far as to say that within a few versions (Windows v10), the entire OS (Windows Phone, Windows RT, Windows x86, and the Xbox One OS) will be renamed to either OneWindows or OneOS.  It might be time for them to finally abandon "Windows", a sullied name at this point, and now that we've moved to tiles and full screen apps instead of windows, the name makes less sense.

So we'll have Xbox One, OneOS/OneWindows, OneDrive, possibly Bing being renamed to OneSearch (or just the smart search component of 8.1 gets renamed to OneSearch and Bing remains a brand), and we'll probably have a SurfaceOne line of computers as well.  Instead of Office 2014/15/365, they will all be renamed to OneOffice (we already have OneNote). Windows Server renamed to OneServer, and their new jewelry line will be named OneRing (to rule everything in your life)

This goes along the lines of Microsoft's new advertising slogan, "One <blank> for everything in your life"

Thoughts? I'm just throwing this out for speculation (and so if it happens in a few years I get to say I called it! :). )

This is a light hearted thread, nothing is at stake here, so let's not argue (I know it's a lot to ask), but I would like to just discuss the future of MSFT.

Xbox One was not a favorite name before the announcement either, but that's what we got

Which is great, but it doesn't logically follow that they would rename their OS to follow this trend.  There was no "Windows 360" or "Windows Live" as an OS.

Interesting proposition, but it all really depends on the direction the new CEO goes for once selected, but the possibility of renaming Windows could happen, has happened before
