I have a very ill relative in hospital and to 'cheer' up her kids i've decided to upgrade the family PC so they can distract themselves a little!I'm replacing Windows XP MCE with Windows 7. I've got spare DDR2 Ram to get it from 512MB to 2GB and i've got a spare PCI-Express Graphics Card but the Processor is terrible! My question is: They currently have a HP Pavilion Media Center a1615 with a Celeron D 352 3.2 GHz Processor. I am tempted to get them a PENTIUM D 3.4 GHZ but i'm worried the stock cooler won't be adequate as i know the Pentium D's run quite hot! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Max Norris Posted January 28, 2014 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Usually, in my own personal builds anyway, the stock cooler that comes with the OEM CPU's has typically been plenty adequate as long as there's no overclocking involved, unless the chassis was poorly designed and had bad air flow anyway. Astra.Xtreme Posted January 28, 2014 Share Posted January 28, 2014 You could go with the Celeron E3400 instead. You can find them on Ebay for about $15 or less. Just need confirmation if the Pentium D and Celeron D share the same cooler or not! :) Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades: Pentium D 9xx Dual Core Pentium D 8xx series Dual Core Pentium 4 6x1 series Pentium 4 6xx Pentium 4 5xx Celeron D Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Riggers Posted January 28, 2014 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Celeron D are the same size cooler as Pentium D (dual core), iv`e just looked at an old box which has a 3GHz Pentium D with stock cooler running at 42C.
