Upcoming AAA Ubisoft Title: 1080p on PS4 / Sub 1080p on Xbox One

Recommended Posts

If people want to post rumors as if they are news, so be it, but is it wrong to ask the OP to use a correct title? It does not mention 720p or the name of the game, so why have words been added? It just looks like it was done for effect.

If you like reading about that stuff as part of the console war rubbish, have fun wading through the crap. Are you trying to say you like the flaming and console wars? That's much different than wanting info about games, which is what I like.

Didn't mean to insult you.  Usually though you are the voice of reason in these type of threads, kind of the "Why can't we all just get along" guy.  Not that I see that as bad.

Well I appreciate you making that clear. I wasn't sure what you meant.

It sounded like you were saying I didn't want to hear about game info like the technical details. My goal is to get the important info I need to decide which game to get or which platform to get it on, while dodging the console war slings and arrows

With all the delays im worried the game is even going to be good.   Its kind of sad how some people are so concerned about resolution that they would turn away from a good game because of it and not just enjoy a game.

I finally got my ps4 and its wonderful but because my xbox is on 24/7 because i run my satellite through it and use netflix and what not i get all multi platform games on it just out of convenience.

If you buy out of convenience why couldn't people buy for technical reasons? You can't really call someones choice to buy the prettier version sad when your reason is because your Xbox is turned on 24/7.

And no I'm not saying your reason is sad, I don't think any reason is sad, I just want to highlight your slight double standard.

Can we have a xbox vs ps4 vs pc comparison then? I like to run my games at 2560x1600. Resolution seems to be so important, right?

We could, but pointing out a high-end rig beats consoles would be completely pointless; we already know that. Comparing 2 consoles released at the same time is interesting because they are competing against one and other. If we start to see a consistent trend of one platform running games better than another then I think that is an appropriate discussion to have a tech website's gaming area.

I agree completely, as long as posters can keep their cool and not make it about scoring points for either side.

Can we stop posting these 720p vs 1080p threads? I think we've had enough of these.

Why?

I don't recall too much people asking gamers to stop saying the 360 controller was better or that multiplatform titles were better on 360 than PS3.

Well considering the topic is only a rumor

I'll give you that as long as it's not confirmed it is irrelevant.

What does that have to do with anything?

I think he is pointing out  that people on here can't be OK with promoting one systems values (PS) or advantages over another's(Xbox).

Promoting is fine, but countless topics about the same thing is pretty excessive. If the norm is 1080p on PS4 and 720p on XB1, then let's just leave it at that.

If people lose interest in these topics they  will be ignored and people will stop starting them. Complaining about the fact they exist keeps them alive.

I own neither system, knowing how well multiplatform games run on either in important to my future buying decision.

Such a substantial difference in resolution is far from unprecedented given the titles released so far, so there is merit in discussing such rumours. Of course people want to know if one console will perform better than the other, especially if they haven't yet committed to a platform. Personally I considered 720p incredibly dated for the last generation and would expect much better from the "next" generation.

As for criticising the topic, that's valid too but once that opinion has been expressed it's time to move on - repeating the same point does not contribute to the topic.

No, I personally like knowing which games I am interested in not making what I feel is next gen.

So then I can feel cheated by thinking I bought the wrong next gen system.

1080 is NOT new.  It's been out for years.   The xbox one is a NEXT GEN system.  It should be

able to do 1080.  If not then they shouldn't have released it.  I think it's honestly

ridiculous that they cannot do it.

If I am paying a ridiculous amount for this system, extra controller, xbox live, and games, I want

it to be a good investment.   It so far isn't living up to next gen.

The Xbox One isn't really a next gen console anymore, and for that matter neither is the PlayStation 4. They're now

both current generation consoles. They stopped being next gen when they were released last November.

The actual next generation of gaming/entertainment consoles are several years away.

Yawn. Who cares? This is a rumour from a source who likes to poop on the XB1, especially when anything moderately good happens to the XB1. That "drama" yesterday on NeoGaf about Cboat and the MS "insider" obviously rattled this guy's cage and so he had to immediately spread some FUD.

Why can't we just wait until the game comes out, look at the differences, and then just buy the damn game and have some fun without insisting on having a massive argument about the pixels?

I don't think 720p will be the norm on the One. There's already 1080p games on the One anyway and there will be more in the upcoming years. I think it is nice to know at which resolution a game is running. I personally think it should even be written on the back of the case the resolution at which a game is actually running.

This said this is just a rumour so I don't think anyway really care all that much for now.

From what I can tell the xbox approach is more software optimisation as opposed to the PS4's hardware grunt, so it makes absolute sense that devs need to learn these optimisation tricks whereas the grunt on the PS4 is just there.

The thing is when the devs do start to use the tricks properly they should open up more options for getting games running better, faster etc, whereas on the PS4 that power cant really be enhanced upon.

And I'm not talking about your standard optimisations here, there is some clever ###### going on with the xbox that needs to be used for it to be a benefit. Both systems will see optimisations but the xbox has more potential in this respect.

Just the way I understand things folks.

They did some of that last gen. I have ps3 and 360 games that would list the resolution they supported. Now, I haven't seen any next retail games that list that. I suppose its a bit different now since both console can upscale to 1080p.

Yeah but upscaling is not as good as native. I know most people wont see the difference but there's one specially on big 55+ inch TV. It's not all that important for people with small TV 720 does the job but when you have a big 1080p TV you really want to display sources at 1080p native as much as possible.

Maybe the thread title could use a tad bit of adjustment though, for the sake of clarity.

I agree, but seeing as this is just a rumour from Twitter I'm stuck with what to put.

Will gladly change it if someone offers a good suggestion.

I think multiplats will mostly continue to be inferior in frame rate and resolution on the Xbox because I highly doubt they'll optimise for the Xboxs embedded memory, just like last gen hardly anyone optimised for the PS3 Cell processor, leading to mostly inferior multiplatform games. I think the only 1080 games on the Xbox one with decent graphics will be exclusives.

My suggestion would be:

[Rumor] Upcoming AAA Ubisoft Title: 1080p on PS4/Sub 1080p XB1

Since neither the name watch dogs or the sub res was mentioned directly from the source, that title seems more legit.
