How would Game (UK) handle the return of a faulty Vita?

Recommended Posts

I've had it three days and already added the two included games to my account (they were scratch cards with online codes).

However, the hardware has a screen fault (randomly turns off).

Do you think I'd still be entitled to a full refund?

After owning it three days? You're definitely entitled to a refund by law, assuming it's a fault of the device, and not down to it being dropped or something.

I can't imagine they could refuse. I am not familiar with the UK consumer laws, though.

Is it a problem with the screen or does the whole system shut off/reboot/cut out ? I remember I installed a demo for a certain title (can't recall which one) and it was buggy and I had to go in and boot the device in safemode or whatever and uninstall the sh|tty demo.

Probably not a refund, but store credit or a replacement device.

True. After 3 days they might think you've simply changed your mind and be resistant to giving you a refund and insist on a replacement or a store credit.

Was it pre-owned?

I picked up a DSi on a pre-owned deal for ?29.99 free delivery.. i checked their pre-owned policy and it promised as good as new, clean and working.. when the DSi arrived it looked like a dogs chew toy, covered in bite marks, major scratches on the screen and minor scratches covering every inch of the console, he d-pad was extremely loose and the charger was so dirty i didn't even want to touch it... it's supposed to be grey it was BLACK, and had some sort of gunk around the socket area.

I contacted them about it and was able to return it free of charge. I asked for a refund because i was frightened about what i would end up with next.

Gonna be hard to get a refund after claiming the digital games :/ Probably will get offered a replacement although you should check out the CAB website for your actual rights to a refund. I believe you actually get better rights if you buy online due to distance buyer protections for some crazy reason. I would try your luck though with the refund if that is what you want you never know

Games are linked to the account, not the device. Just deactivate the device under the device management webpage to be able to download it to a new device. I think you're allowed to link 3 devices?

Yep, you're entitled to a full refund as you haven't accepted the goods. The digital code is moot. You're returning the code to them - if they wish, they can take the games back.

Say nothing and just bring it back. Get your coat and go now.

Yeah this is what I would do. Don't mention the codes just say you bought it as a gift for your brother or sister and they realised it had a fault right away and want a refund not a replacement. Hopefully they won't check the codes but if they do just say obviously you registered them how else were you to know it was faulty without playing it? Best thing is to act dumb with Game staff in my experience. If they ask why you want a refund just say you are not happy it was broken and don't want a replacement.

I was referring more to the fact that in the UK (I believe) getting refunds for digital things can be tricky as a lot of places don't "allow" it although I suspect they have to if pushed. I remember reading something about not being able to get refunds on Steam for similar reasons although that might not have been UK specific.

How can they take the games back if the codes have already been redeemed? Ring Sony and tell them to invalidate the codes?

I don't think they really give a crap about codes. It probably costs them absolutely nothing anyway.

Just out of curiosity, OP, what games were they?

If it's faulty you have at least 1 year warranty which will have to be honoured by GAME. Only if it wasn't faulty they might have an issue.. as you've used those codes.

Just bring it to one of their shops with your receipt, tell them you've been using it for a few days and it's gone faulty. No need to mention the codes.. they're not hardware. Software is never covered under warranty anyway.

It was also unboxed with no manual etc. the power cable wrapped up with an old sticky elastic band.. i was really shocked.

I sent them photos and a long, slightly humorous, email and also asked them to comment on the pre-owned statement on their website.

They replied with "thank you for bringing a faulty product to our attention, return it here: <address>" pretty much ignoring my entire email.

Yeah, you usually get that standard type of response. It is depressing when you went to all of the trouble of making a clever, sarcastic, or ironic statement to express your disappointment in their service and they don't acknowledge it

So it turns off while you are playing games? Or while it is not playing games?
Just want to make sure it is not turning off when it is supposed to, as apparently enough people thought it was an issue Sony made an FAQ about the very topic.
It goes to sleep very fast in order to conserve battery.

The screen goes off and the sound continues :/
