Star Swarm, the first look at Oxide Games’ next-generation Nitrous engine, is available! Up to 10,000 or even more starships, live on screen, blowing the crap out of each other. Download it now through Steam for free or learn more about Oxide, Nitrous, and Star Swarm.

Besides the number of ships on the screen, this doesn't seem too interesting. The shield effects look kind of like the ships are wrapped in condoms.

You can still run the benchmark in DirectX mode. Waiting for the 14.1 drivers to see the improvement.

Its just a game engine demo, about as exciting as any other of many.

As for their claims, yeah, remember the demos for UE3 the super detailed castles the destruction and monsters with millions of individual hairs each calculated with physics and internal collisions... Yeah... Tech demo is not what you get.

It's much more relevant, because it's using tech that's available to normal people instead of SLI Titans or crap like that.

Topic moved

I'm always intrigued by these sort of games but I absolutely suck at them and have no idea where to start.

EVE and the huge wars boggles my mind

The UE3 tech demo ran at normal high end hardware at the time. Mid end by now.
