This one isn't too bad, but the rest are just dragging Windows, kicking and screaming, back to the `90s. I don't do anything else, technology-wise, the same as I did in 1995. Why should operating a computer be the one thing that's frozen in amber?

I can only agree with DConnell, there's no going back into the 90s with Windows. I'd love to see more customizability in Windows 8.x like changing the spacing between desktop icons (without tweaking the Registry, it is boring) since the ability is there in the system - there's just no UI for it.

Sorry but the first one looks like a Whole different OS, it's nothing like 8.

regarding the third, I'd love to browse and install apps on all my windows devices from a unified store.

the fourth makes a lot of sense . Since we are getting metro apps in the taskbar with spring update, having notifications count would be good. Moreover, a task switcher consistent with windows phone that replaces both alt+tab panel and the left bar would be awesome. It can be accessible both by alt tab and swiping from, the left edge.

Some sort of live tile in the taskbar would be awesome. The smaller size of the start screen tile could be used. Like the mail icon in the taskbar showing how much new mails i got. Being able to run metro apps in a window is much needed too. The start screen needs to be a little bit more customizable too. Would be cool if desktop apps could create a non-live tile on the start screen instead of using the old start menu folder and icons. Would be even cooler if desktop apps could create a live tile on the start menu (pinable to task bar) and use this live tile instead of the systray.

Metro Mail needs to support pop3 too. Seriously MS ...

Anyway there's still lot of works to do to make the desktop/metro experience in Windows 8 an seamless experience. I hope Windows 9 upgrade wont be too much expensice since Windows 8 was basically an alpha OS.

I'd like to see something like that 4th image, but tweaked more for familiarity for traditional users like myself, and seeing as it's most likely a multi monitor system, why not have both, it would certainly keep both sides happy. Moreso if it was all switchable, then even more again.

For modern users turn off the older desktop mode, an intermediate setting so you can select which monitor gets desktop and which gets modern, and lastly, a setting to keep modern users happy, turn off old desktop altogether..

I understand 8.1 is supposed to bridge that gap, but as I havent gotten round to try it yet, I can only go by what other users have told me so far..

(And no one confirmed if can do both styles on different monitors, but then, I didn't ask, so my ignorance is my own fault)
